I'm shocked that Weezer isn't suing for a writing credit on Maria. Island In the Sun sounds verrrry similar.

Yeah I can hear the similarity however Weezer is in Major and Maria is in Minor chord based on my ear

To me with the guitar and bass it reminds me more This Time Is Now (but not copy or anything like that, just the vibe of an instrumental)

As a preface, this is my first ever post on here. But wow! What a mess…

If you would have told me in September that this would be the fate of this era- I would have never believed you. The lack of promotion, lack of artistry… it's beyond me. Dua Lipa was supposed to be the next big thing and this album proves that she never will be.

Now don't get me wrong, it is NOT a bad album. It just isn't polished. This would've been a very acceptable project had it been released just off the back of FN, perhaps right after she finished touring or even during her break- as an EP or something cute to give to the fans. But not like this, never like this. She should've never left her management.

Also, releasing a summer album and not including cherry, Berlin summer etc? What wasted potential!

this album isn't the end of career like twitter is saying , it's a massive misstep and shock yes.. she will bounce back like she always does.. :giraffe:

and once again the cat avatar is literally having a breakdown over someone elses work ethic.

I also get a little bit of this:

I love the album as it is but I really do wish it had more of the psychedelia element she claimed it would. Could Kevin not have given her a few scraps from Currents or The Slow Rush to tack onto the end?

Somewhere I read

"If Harry Styles released Radical Optimism everybody would love it"

and I absolutely agree

I love this song. Dua would excel with this sound.

The album is dedinitely a grower, tho I blame it on the lack of climaxes on the songs and some lackluster songwriting moments. If that were improved I think it would automátically click with more people.

That being said These Walls and Whatcha Doing are the only opciones for potential singles if they want to improve the overall performance.

But they need to promote and deliver nice music videos, with some personality and originality.

Just a reminder, Kylie Minogue has had many commercial ups and downs throughout her career and look where she is now. Madonna had Erotica 9 years into her career and Gaga's Artpop was 5 years in. Britney's self-titled third album was considered a commercial decline. Janet's The Velvet Rope was also seen as a commercial decline until Together Again saved the era, and Rihanna's Rated R had a similar fate with Rude Boy.

I felt in the past that Dua didn't particularly have a big core fanbase but I've seen lots of Dua stans online since then. Plus her shows have always done well. And furthermore, she is consistently giving quality. The fact that people online still love Future Nostalgia to such a high level demonstrates that. She made some errors this era but the quality of her work thus far is too high for her to fall considerably in my view. She's definitely here to stay.

So, the deluxe vinyl changed from a singed print to a signed art card? Dua, whyyyyyyy? :gaycat7:

Upon further review of her instagram story with her signing stuff -- they were always CD sized.... we tricked ourselves.

People forget there was a time when pop girls used to release underperforming projects and just...moved on and succeeded in future projects.

Today it feels like everyone thinks each new project is either a new peak or career-killing.

btw i agree. Pop girls were used to score top 30 hits and everyone would just continue to enjoy the music. Thats pretty normal too. If it wasn't for that one girl who is obsessed with the charts this era could have been fun too.

loved the performance last night

The songs sound even better live, cuz of the instruments. This is really a „live album".

Cant wait to witness on tour

Album finally just clicked for me actually …..

She's performing Happy for You again tonight on BBC1 Live Lounge. I think it would actually be smart to push that as a single if it grows legs. It's a different sound for her singles-wise and it's an amazing sing-along song
