They are closeminded, we can't do much about it Wait her occupying the whole Top 3 on Billboard Spoiler s Hot Dance/Electronic Chart American queen

WildAmerican Posted May 3 Posted May 3 i think we need a think piece on what radical optimism truly means

End of an Era (it flows so well with the spoken ending of AFL) 3. Maria (flows well with the vinyl sound at the end of EOE) 4. Watcha Doing 5. French Exit 6. Houdini (kinda the same 'I come and I go' theme of FE) 7. Training 8. Illusion 9. These Walls 10. Falling (since it reminds me of Gipsy I thought of putting it at the end. It feels like a great pre-closer) 11. Happy for Ya

To me radical optimism means to be optimistic, to roll with the punches, through the chaos. It's what the world needs!" 500 times throughout the rollout enough?

tellyourfriends Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) i really wish she added more cute adlibs on french exit, especially in the outro i'd have loved it moree. Edited May 3 by tellyourfriends
PerfectCure Posted May 3 Posted May 3 If Afterlight was the closer for DL1 and Love is Religion for FN, she'd really have the strongest album closers among her peers. Happy For You is just perfect! 1

jamiko1230 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) Uhh...not feeling the album :-/ . But ya Houdini was IT by miles. FN and DTN are still massive & all the radio so...once (when not if) she 'returns to her signature disco pop sound' & Tap Management (or something l like it) for her next album in 2025 already pumped! lol The GP esp. in the US (non ATRL) doesn't even know she has a new album OR a 6 month old 1st single. Highly likely think Houdini was a follow up to DTN from the prior era lol. She needs a *break, period. Wait a year & smack down all the doubters & haters & put out another low burn smash right around when she turns 30. Edited May 3 by jamiko1230 1
Club classic Posted May 3 Posted May 3 so many highlights. Illusion, Houdini, French Exit, These Walls, Falling Forever, Maria, Happy for You... the only bad song is Anything for Love

storminthedark Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I agree with critics that the album is just okay given the standards Dua set for herself with FN but the reviews of this album show the problems with music criticism atm just as much as some of the TPPD reviews did. Confessional and diaristic songwriting is not the goal for every songwriter and that doesn't mean they're not talented at what they're trying to achieve with their art. There's an argument to be made that Dua's subdued presence in the US is down to her personality type but none of FN was particularly personal in the way some of these reviews are crying out for and that was praised. It feels like a lot of the reviews are using that as a crutch or evidence to prop up their argument for the album not being good, when in reality it's that they feel the production isn't good enough. Holding every major artist to a standard like Taylor and setting expectations of intense moments divulging their personal lives is not good music criticism. 7
qurl Posted May 3 Posted May 3 i was holding out for the full album but i can now definitively say she lost whatever sparkle / magic she had during Future Nostalgia .. Houdini and Illusion are cute, there's some interesting melodies on here but the songwriting is mostly atrocious and it all just sounds uninspired. all those vacations and not enough compelling life experiences to draw from them
BlackoutZone Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) Quote "Radical Optimism" is solid. Had Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae or any of the other up-and-coming pop girlies released the album, it would've been a guaranteed star-maker. But bona fide dance-floor diva Dua Lipa set too high of a bar for herself with 2020's "Future Nostalgia," one of the greatest LPs of the decade so far, for its follow-up to stand out. She's her own enemy, but they spilled Edited May 3 by BlackoutZone 4
