Dua Lipa - 'Radical Optimism'

Falling Forever is good, but I feel like that chorus requires a true vocalist to belt it out and elevate it to a 10/10 track. :sorry:

I've been so hard on Dua this era. Mainly because I was borderline obsessed with her during FN era, and I've just been so let down this era because I just don't like the music. And the album is the same, something just isn't hitting for me. But I've just gotta accept that.

It's alright. :michael:I'll try again later but it's not a bad album, it's not a great album.

watcha doing is cute but lacks personality

The main problem with Dua now is that there is no substance. Having mindless, generic pop songs every once in awhile is fine. But that is what her entire catalog consists of. This album sounds like AI because there's nothing being said

It's not bad, but it's not good. It's just...there

Imma need Dua to call up The Blessed Madonna REAL QUICK coz...

Apart from Watcha Doin, a good, meticulous DJ MIX might save this era, making sure to sample psychedelic, rave, britpop influences she's been so adamant about:clap3:

why would she call the imposter Madonna to "save" anything she sucks.

I think you can tell Dua was trying very hard on Future Nostalgia. She tried very hard to improve her stage presence, she tried very hard to make unforgettable pop bangers, she tried to show she can make a political statement with BWBB. Even the album title/title track is clearly aspirational - she wanted to make a future classic.

In contrast, I think this album is Dua trying to seem as effortless as possible. The singles are less punchy and a bit more subdued, the aesthetic is more muted, everything's just a lot calmer…and almost too much so.

I feel like this album is full of songs that would be cute if you heard them on a tv show or in a movie, but they don't demand your attention on their own. It's an album full of 4th single/hidden gem candidates and short on lead single candidates.
