Dua Lipa - 'Radical Optimism'

I don't get the singles run. They should release These Walls as second single after Houdini was seen same as FN. It would show people how the album would actually sound like. And Falling forever as 3rd single. I'm not saying it would have gone better but I think FN's criticism wouldn't exist.

slightly underwhelmed on first listen but these songs would be elevated greatly with more backing vocals and harmonies imo, its still a cute album though!

These Walls, Falling Forever, Happy for You and Maria are my standouts on first listen, in that order

TBH I really like Dupa and enjoyed the singles but I wasn't expecting much from the album but I am pleasantly surprised by the album. It's very fun and easy to listen to and there's a ton of different melodies.

Happy For You is one of her best songs ever, it is just THAT good.

The album is a lot better than I thought it would be tbh :clap3:

The three similar singles choices was a … choice. The album has a lot of variety on it.  Loving end of an era, these walls, happy for you.

Album sounds so British some how? Like British pop/electro references from the 2000's?

the lyrics are so clunky and basic

Best songs:

Houdini - Her best song period

End of an Era - Love this, so fresh for Dua. Bridge reminds me of Marina/Electra Heart

French Exit - Probably the most interesting sonic direction IMO, very sexy groovy and chill.

Illusion - Biggest grower, Dua just does this house sound well even if it's a bit safe for her

Whatcha Doing - Shimmering funk-disco bop, it's like FN but elevated. I could see this being a single with a remix and MV

Worst song: Anything for Love   :deadbanana4:

Overall it's a SOLID album, it's not quite FN tier but it's still a pretty decent collection of funky mediterranean beach bops. Love the sprinkles of latin guitar throughout the album. There's definitely a handful of songs that will last me through the summer... but it lowkey needs that re-release to fill in the gaps and make it a STRONG album statement.

So Falling Forever is what we and the label thought Illusion was gonna be

Yeah the album is definitely 2000s Britpop/Europop inspired. If she said that in the interviews instead of psychedelic/rave, I think we would all have approached this era very differently lol

its already out in my country

1st listen is a dud, appreciate that she try to do something different with the album tracks but her voice is not suit for the slow tempo songs at all.

the 3 singles while not different much from her previous material but are bops, she picked the right ones for singles. Hopefully those album tracks are grower.

Okay that didn't flow well to Godini but no song can compare to Hymnini anyway.

I didn't enjoy FN besides a few songs, but this album is stylistically and sonically more pleasing and interesting to me as a whole.

Still not a knockout album by any means, but at least we got her best song Illusion!
