suburbannature Posted February 12 Posted February 12 It’s honestly an insult to Beyoncé’s artistry for us to pretend like this song is good, let alone among her best 10 2
Trent W Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I thought I was the only one who didn’t like that one Bey failed on this track But 16 carriages is a great one

Well comparing it to 16 CARRIAGES which is far less concerned with standard song structure and mass appeal, the comparison works. CUFF IT is cute, but it took the remix for me to really love it.

It actually feels really writercamp’d cause like… you’re Beyoncé, no one relates to you singing that THIS. Break My Soul vibes "quit my job". Ajay "Guuurl, what job did you quit?"
Rep2000 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The new songs are very uninspiring tbh. Country is simply not her genre. Her singing techniques are still flawless, but the songs don't fit her. She lacks the relatability to sing about Lexus or "Undеrpaid and overwhelmed". Gurl, we all know you don't cook or clean a day in your life. 1

This is just writing fiction at this point. Edited February 12 by Rep2000 2
Illuminati Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Pitchfork is just bitter about the layoffs, expect more harsh reviews
Maxxie Posted February 12 Posted February 12 When I heard Act II was country I didn’t expect watered down bland country drivel 1
The Next Day Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) It will be interesting to see whether her secretive approach to promotion will work with country music. I like the song, but it's really a bit tough to connect to it while her "dance music goddess" image of Renaissance is still fresh in mind. I can see that. But just like Daddy Lessons works best within the context of Lemonade, I have trust the same will apply to this song. Daddy Lessons is also a song that is at best semi-biographical, but it works because of the way it is framed within the album. Quote it’s just as difficult to imagine her boot-scootin’ at a honky-tonk as it was to imagine her rolling at the club. But that's just a lie. When BMS dropped everyone welcomed Beyoncé back as a disco diva with open arms. Renaissance is club album from front to back and people went crazy after she had stayed away from dance music for quite some time. Edited February 12 by The Next Day
Bosque Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I agree THE sounds a lot like a writing camp’s Lumineers demo. Kinda disappointing for her standard. 16 carriages is much more promising
justin. Posted February 12 Posted February 12 No shade to my sister Kacey Musgraves (love her, love all her albums, have met her hihi), but Texas Hold ‘Em is very much in the vein of her first two albums, which were acclaimed by Pitchfork. They are fickle.
Kristie Kuwa Posted February 12 Posted February 12 They labelled it Pop/RnB. Thats where everyone who has an ounce of integrity in them should stop reading 3
TMRA Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I wouldnt worry too much tbh. BMS was the weakest song on Renny. Texas is a cute fun country song and 16 IS AMAZING, they should review that one
Zefierce Posted February 12 Posted February 12 They are correct - so far the releases are just embarrassing for Beyonce. And beehive thought this was her ticket to an AOTY 1 3

BILLIONAIRE✘BOY Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Idgi though, anyone singing about a 9-5 isn't working one ...because they are singing. To think those lyrics are autobiographical Her fans parasocially relate to her and her music .... God forbid she acknowledges them and what they are going through Lewis Carol's reach would be greatly limited if they thought writing from purely their lifes perspective would get the job done for example Her knowing her fans (the ones working the 9-5) are going to sing the lyrics aren't enough? The playing dumb act is aging fast than Justin Timberlakes rep/career/skincare routine. Whether the song is good or not is irrelevant to me, I hope everyone has their own opinion but the lyrical illiteratecy is ten fold more than what it needs to be/open the schools ffs (im drunk ignore this if u want) 1
Scandalous Posted February 12 Posted February 12 they didn’t lie. the songs aren’t bad but she doesnt have the authenticity or conviction to pull off country music
suneclipse121 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Pitchfork from what I remember was very muted towards Break My Soul as well. They eventually praised Renaissance however. I could see the same happening here again.
Shinning Posted February 12 Posted February 12 How are they bad mouthing Break my Soul? Wasn't Renaissance their #1 album of 2022? Flip-flopping *ss *****
