Saint luv Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I'm sorry but tyrant is boring, sounds like every other song out there. 2
Augmented Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I don't think people are going to get what I mean by this but II Hands II Heaven is so Renaissance coded to me. Not in the way of sonics but more in the maximalist and abstract lyrics and her vocal delivery at some parts. Another fantastic song! 1

Yup and 16 carriages is also very country I'd argue.. she kinda played us by releasing these exact two songs, the album is nothing like them
Lose My Breath Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I can't believe there is no thread for the CD signing, cause that's just crazy lol

chaklux Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I love it but didn't care for the interludes. Nice for first listen but affects replay values. Random talks in between songs are mostly just nice for first listen. An classic example is original flawless featuring chimamanda, I love the song but don't play it often because of chimamanda's part , got boring to listen to. Also this is the first Beyoncé's album in a long while that felt too long for me and some songs felt like fillers. The highs on Cowboy carter is higher than Renaissance, but overall Renaissance felt more cohesive and interesting to me.
lapisnour Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Now why do I feel like the critics are gonna tear this one to shreds though… 1
satellites.™ Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) Okay girlies, I found a special moment, Riiverdance goes straight into II Hands II Heaven and the flow of, "bounce on that **** dance" stays high as you enter the Eurpophia of Heaven. It's the POTS into Virgos Groove of act ii, it literally felt amazing when I caught the beat continuation on this listen. Riiverdance is like the foreplay into the heightened parts of sex and then II Hands II Heaven is like when it slows down and you guys connnect tight and look into each others eyes to finish together and then lay and sleep in each others arms. edit: And then here comes TYRANT, omfg, this is the three hit combo!!!!!! Edited March 29 by satellites.™
Augmented Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Tyrant A Hip Hop country bop! Definitely the most contemporary and accessible sounding song on the album but not in a way that it feels trendy. Thought the fiddle was going to break into the Rather Be motif for a second I'm not going to lie
perfectillusion204 Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Yall realize you can make a playlist without the interludes if you don't like them… lol

It's boring as hell, Texas Hold Em is the best you're getting, lets keep it real. Aw, are you fuming that Beyoncé been continuously shown Gaga how to do: Artpop correctly with Self-Titled Chromatica correctly with Renaissance and now Joanne correctly with Cowboy Carter? well keep fuming then cause it'll happen again and again 21 10 9 3 3

Obviously she sounds fabulous, and obviously I get the tie to Lemonade... But idk. What made Jolene JOLENE was dolly doing the opposite of what she could have and instead, did not blame the woman, and showed humility, no ego. So much more mature than bey's take on it I get it, I'm just underwhelmed by the kinda trivial version Beyoncé covering it exactly like the original would have been problematic. Many people can get away with singing the original lyrics, but not Beyoncé's whose entire brand is about feminism and girl power. A lot of critics and even some GPs will drag her for it. The whole attention would have been too much distraction for the album. Most discourse and debates will focus on Jolene rather than the entire Cowboy Carter. So what she did is better, honestly. 1 3

Massive_Teardrop Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Sweet honey buckin is a hell of a faggy rodeo techno trash party song, I'm so happy 5
satellites.™ Posted March 29 Posted March 29 People who dont like interludes dont have an imagination or have ADHD lol. Slow down and enjoy the ride boo. 3
DJBroox Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Beautiful piece of art - truly no one is doing it like B. Genre-bending & vocal styles I've never heard from her (or anyone) before. Like I saw someone say earlier, the metronome noise on blackbird is so dang distracting. I wish it wasn't there because it's beautiful. Faves on first listen: Spaghettii, Ya Ya, Riiverdance, Tyrant, Sweet/Honey/Buckin (but impartial to the latter two) I wish desert eagle was so much longer. Pls birthday cake remix it queen 1
OBEY Posted March 29 Posted March 29 that 1-2-3-4 punch with riiverdance ii hands ii heaven tyrant sweet honey buckiin' 1
