AMIT is one happy camper, singing high praises: "This track might seem a bit understated at first (at least it seemed that way for me), but repeated listens are sure to reveal something very special. the piano intro combined with her innocent vocals sets us up for the R&B beat drop and everything comes together from that point on. it was a grower for me, but it has not left its spot as an absolute favorite of mine since then."

The girls that get it, get it.

Spoiler

The Fantôme sabotage really had me thinking she was a lost cause.

This one is so cute! Sweet and innocent, like most of First Love. time will tell is a slice of comfort that has a hint of sadness to it. Hikki tells us that although crying doesn't change anything, we should do it anyway if that's what we feel. The rest is left up to time itself. No wonder it worked so well as the final song of the 2010 farewell shows... Sniff. How far we've come. I guess time did tell!

Though it was released as a double A-side with Automatic, time will tell has always come across as more of a B-side than anything. No proper music video or anything. Poor thing! It has great accolades to it's name, but it surely feels like most of those actually belong to Automatic...? Am I being unfair? Hm. But hey, at least is got used as the ending theme song to the TV show Gokigenyou! Get money, babe!

I hate to end on a sour note, but sometimes the only commentary I have is from Curaga :deadbanana: And this is distinctly: "Not my thing."

Whoops, sorry to be a downer... You could have excluded my less than negligible comment like you did with Shiawase ni Narou :foxaylove2:

I guess I’m the only one who commented on every song, but I should have spent time writing more thoughtful comments. I was eager to get my ballot in lol; wasn’t I the first or second submission? :clown:

HIGHEST SCORE: 10 x 3 (AMIT, Cruel Summer, confide in me)

LOWEST SCORE: 4 x 1 (Aria0327)

MY SCORE: 7

This is an interesting one,  parked between two more somber tracks we have the (relatively) upbeat wolf anthem. I love the opening of this song, with the sparse beats and the breathy vocals coming in. Unfortunately, I do think the song loses a bit of sheen as it goes on and abandons these elements. Don't get me wrong, the brass is great too, but it's a little Tomodachi-lite, as opposed to the unique vibe the intro seemed to promise.

I'm... not really sure what this one is about tbh! There's a lot of wolf imagery and running through the wilderness. My assumption is that it has something to do with abandoning those societal expectations. Hikaru takes time to describe men and women doing their standard things, and pleading to a partner that they should just run free like wild wolves tonight. The line about not wanting to be collared by a name is of interest too, could it be a rebuke on the idea of name taking in a traditional marriage? What do you guys think?

Curaga is a fan of the instrumentation: "Love the horns on this one too. Omg and that piano tone is beautiful."

And what's this?? Fantome HATER AMIT with a high score?? "so melodic, the strings and piano are beautiful, and the horns to round it out, she sounds lovely as well, one of my faves for sure."

Lord, I truly LOST during this update. :monkey:

On the upside I handed out 10s like they were nothing, so I still have a bunch of 'em left. :gaycat4:

I ADORE this song. There's such a wistfulness to it. One of those tracks that only she could make. :jonny: Probably my favorite from Bad Mode.

In late 2010, just after the release of the Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL. 2, Hikaru announced that they would be taking a hiatus from the music industry. They cited that being an active recording artist for over 15 years had been a greatly fulfilling career but that they had not developed as an individual in that time. Hikaru launched their career as a teen, and admitted that they had never held a regular job, nor paid a bill, nor gone vacationing on their own. They felt overprotected and unsure of who Hikaru Utada was beyond the veneer of the artist.

Show Me Love is the song that best describes the inner struggles that Hikaru went through when making such a decision. The song is a rock affair filled with imagery describing a person torn between two paths. They compare their standing at the time to chasing two different rabbits, admitting that trying to pursue both will only result in both of them escaping. The lyrics on this song are another highlight. It's a song about embracing the darkness inside of us and learning to understand ourselves on deeper levels than before. To take your first steps as your own person. "I'm weak, but that's not particularly something to be ashamed of," Hikaru confesses on this song. I don't think I even need to say it, but this song is everything. A dramatic, bop-tastic banger of a track.

The six-year hiatus gave Hikaru a chance to live as a regular person, to learn a language, to start a family. I'm sure they they found all that they sought on this song.

AMIT took the words right out of my mouth: "whew a banger." Curaga also drops the hate just this once: "I’m usually not one for hard rock/metal like this, but hoooly . . . So good."

Not these two agreeing...
