Reverie Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Easy Breezy could've easily fit on two of the most legendary albums ever, as in Madonna's Music and the Spongebob Soundtrack. And the little synths in the chorus tickle my brain in just the right way. I didn't even realize we had an 11 but my 10 was serious. And I knew Exodus needed help anyways 3
Graves Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 To think, Ultra Blue, Heart Station and Bad Mode would all be untouched too if Hikaru didn't insist on forcing those orphan singles onto their tracklists... Sad!
AMIT Posted January 17 Posted January 17 24 minutes ago, Subomie said: Thanks for tuning in girlies Took a little longer than I expected but I'll try and work on that for future instances. Most likely giving you all another round tomorrow! Deep River and Fantome remain untouched, but for how long? What tracks do we need to see gone? I need a certain lead single OUT in next update at the latest. 1

Whoever edited it didn't know what they were doing and just went with whatever the first click gave them, didn't even bother to blend it properly sad because she looks fab and the photo isn't bad in itself.
Reverie Posted January 17 Posted January 17 See Animato is great too I think all the songs would collectively be at least 10 positions higher if she just sung them in Japanese so people wouldn't be hating on the lyrics or delivery. And I get that tho cuz sometimes I feel like I have to ignore lyrics. But the songs themselves are still very well crafted otherwise 2

Sad! I legitimately didn’t even realize a Bad Mode track was out until you said it - that song so doesn’t feel like it fits on the album
Riverbank Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) The Obsessed Fantôme Haters already out in full force I see OT - I think it's obvious that most of their English songs would be out first. So I don't really have much to say about these eliminations so far. Me Muero deserved slightly better tho Edited January 17 by Riverbank 1

Aria0327 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 (edited) the irony of naming the song animato when the melody is dull and goes nowhere. Edited January 18 by Aria0327
Graves Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 How's everybody doing today? Gonna bring us down to top eighty later on, but for now have a little treat. HIGHEST SCORE: 10 x 3 (Curaga, Suilen, Cruel Summer) LOWEST SCORE: 3 x 2 (AMIT, Aria0327) MY SCORE: 6.5 Such a pretty song... It's cute. It's pretty. It's pretty cute. Dang... admittedly, I don't have all that much to say about this one. It's a pleasant change of pace in the tracklist, but I kind of prefer WINGS performing that role tbh. What can I say about Kairo...? Hm. In places it sounds a little Bjork-like, which is never a bad thing! And despite the slower tempo, it's still in fitting with the overall vibes of the album - unlike the track we cut yesterday. Unfortunately though, I think this might have been served better if they carved it down to a minute and made it into an interlude. That's kind of how I look at it anyway... AMIT is here to deliver harsh pars: "the instrumental is so annoying, overall always sounded like a filler to me. Ayumi does this sound better, sorry." A low blow, sir. Curaga is hyped for some gentle humming: "Sooooo amazing omg." Get your life!

The beautiful bells in the beginning. Those emotional strings + burst of sound at @ 0:59. The small breather @ 1:29 and that gorgeous piano comes in. The stunning vocals. idk the melody just sends me on this one, despite being kind of repetitive. Omg and the wall of sound at the end!!! I love the contrast in this song, how it starts off pretty gentle, builds up tension, calms back down for some quiet piano/vocal moments, and then builds back up with even more tension than before. This track — the melody, the instruments, the vocals — just really does it for me and is probably in my top 20 Utada songs. Y’all are dead wrong. 4

Graves Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 HIGHEST SCORE: 8.9 x 1 (scenekiller) LOWEST SCORE: 4.5 x 1 (Aria0327) MY SCORE: 8 Arashi no Megami, "Storm Goddess", is a rather somber tale. The song is essentially a dedication from Hikaru to her mother, enka singer Fuji Keiko. Hikaru has been open about the troublesome relationship she shared with her mother, citing the woman's struggles with mental health and interpersonal relationships as big hurdles between them. On Arashi no Megami Hikaru compared this relationship to a storm brewed by the Goddess herself. It has some of my favourite lyrics in any of her songs, particularly this verse: "If love is acceptance, then what is "forgiveness"? It's not something you're given, but something you give, Why did I just keep waiting for it? I miss you, mom." It's obviously a topic that cuts to the bone for Hikaru, and it's very affecting to get to hear her thoughts about. Some Utada songs can tend to be more detached tales: stories they're recounting about other people. This one is all personal. It's also a song that takes on an even deeper meaning in the wake of her mother's tragic suicide a few years afterwards. A tough one to rate, no doubt. Curaga is a fan: "Love the title. Nice song." And even AMIT can find some good in this song: "better than I recall it and I know it's about her mother, but even then it's just barely decent." 2

Cruel Summer Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Oh Kairo. The girls who don’t get it don’t get it, and that’s okay. Honestly I think it’s the melody that makes it for me, more than anything else. Simple without being uninteresting. 2

bestfiction Posted January 18 Posted January 18 overall, pretty fine with what has left. Easy Breezy is iconic but I get it. The two weakest songs on Ultra Blue (Be My Last can go too) Has the entirety of This Is The One got OUT?
