katara Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Gosh this sounds insane. Goes really hard. Somehow I think this will be her Poker Face (even with the instrumental build up in the beginning). 1

KatyPrismSpirit Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 (edited) We need some RADIO interviews. Please no Zane Lowe but do the typical interview run dua. The interviews she did before DSN came out build up so much hype, she did one basically every day. Edited November 4, 2023 by houdini

The amount of publications, critics and people who agree that Dua along with The Weeknd REVIVED the 80's sound in pop music is bigger than 20-30 random people who can't accept it because their fave didn't. 1

Hephaestus Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Aaaaaah that snippet sounds INCREDIBILE! You can tell even from those few LQ seconds that the track will be a whole ass bop!

Makes sense 1

The publications that Ive seen credit her, credit her for the huge disco resurgence that happened afterwards. Not the 80s resurgence (which it barely was, as it pops up every 2-3 years). People just bunch up everything as the 80s though. Physical and, to some extent, Cool are far more aligned w the other songs you mention. As those are actual 80s synthpop.

Attributing the whole wave that happened concurrently to one artist and album without the full context is what bugs me. And of course that looking back, she is the one to get most of the credit, as she's the only one who hasn't moved on from it years later, and bases her whole persona on the "Nostalgia" narrative. I hope this album will be a bit more experimental and give us the Future part of Future Nostalgia, without endless samples, interpolations and inspirations. 1 1

If lover counts as 80s influenced almost all of modern pop can be argued to be the same. Future Nostalgia shows off its influence much more obviously and isn’t just generic electro pop.

unclefloprry Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 btw the snippet sounds better every time I listen to it
ImperialCuntess Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 It sounds interesting. I'm getting more Prince power pop but it's recorded in a toaster.
KatyPrismSpirit Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 People thinking 80s and disco are synonymous are so dumb. Disco is literally 70s… Bee Gees, Donna Summer, CHIC, Chaka Khan… this is literally 70s 1
