Today I learnt this was a single...

I like it but it doesn't sound like a SZA song at all

This is so overhated. Its a great tune. :'(

Late Night Talking, Move, Thique, Lavender Haze shouldn't be outlasting these recent eliminations.

I wonder how quickly the Ice Spice remix would’ve gone out

That's a good question! I think it came out when voting was almost over, so it was too hard to include it at the last minute. But that short window also would have been a huge disadvantage. In This Was 2020, the DaBaby remix of "Levitating" was one of the first songs out while the original was in the top ten, even though we all realized later that (homophobia aside) his verse was a slay.

The Nobody Gets Me string cover in Queen Charlotte was so pretty.

HATE the Jay-Z / balls deep couplet though. Nobody wants that image in their head!

LATE NIGHT TALKING

Average score: 7.36

High score: 10 (@4Real, @Norte)

Low score: (@a_d_22)

In the streaming era, it’s become all too common for a monster smash to completely gobble up an album’s entire promotional cycle. Harry’s House is exhibit A, a highly successful record that is nonetheless almost singularly defined by the endless chart run of “As It Was.” That domination left little room for anything else from Harry to find legs last year, starting with this second single, a yacht rock bounce about the joy of a new relationship. Even when “Late Night Talking” eventually climbed to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 – it would also top pop radio – it remained stuck behind “As It Was.”

Best bit: the syncopated delivery of the “We’ve been doing all this late night talking” refrain makes for a fun singalong

ATRL says…: “I can't make the music not bop, I'm sorry,” @cockatoo said.

Can’t believe there’s still 41 songs in, feel like most of the big ones are out

This didn't deserve an average above 5. I'll stfu about Hagrid now since AIW deserves to be Top 30.

So yes, Harry Styles is down to his last song. Will today be the day that we bid farewell to Harry's House? There's one more coming.

LAVENDER HAZE

Average score: 7.36

High score: 10 (@a_d_22, @Rev8, @Achilles.)

Low score: (@CBC)

Continuing her synesthetic tradition of relating colors to emotions, the opening track of Midnights finds Taylor in a “Lavender Haze” of passion, a phrase she picked up from an episode of Mad Men. Over a swirl of burbling synths and a clattering drum machine, she shuts out the gossipy speculation about when she’s finally going to marry her then-longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn and indulges in their bliss. After debuting at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the album’s release week, “Lavender Haze” and its trippy self-directed music video served as the second single, eventually climbing back to #11 on the chart and into the top five of pop radio.

Best bit: “I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say”

ATRL says…: “Sad that it didn't do as well,” @Rev8 bemoaned. “It's really cute.” @Ewan Chaos compared it to “I Think He Knows (The Bad Version).” @cockatoo wondered, “Isn't this supposed to be a fan favourite? It's fine, I guess, but it's not looking good for the rest of the album.”

Lavender Haze is excellent. Too ahead of its time for certain people. Will definitely have a “can’t believe this didn’t smash back then” resurgence in a few years.
