Yes Taylor would never be able to get away with releasing bodies of work as generic as Music of the Sun, Loud, Talk that Talk... She wouldn't have fans streaming these albums today. We know Rih is the better singer and Taylor writes and this argument has been going in circles for a while now and needs to end, nothing new or interesting is going to be said. Music of The Sun is mostly generic filler made to pad an album tracklist like most of Rihanna discography

Like we're supposed to believe an album filled with Caribbean inspired songs is more generic than songs like Shake It Off be serious

I don't need some industry awards to know whether an album is good or not, I have ears for that. But if you want to use that as an argument you should know that Taylor albums are widely seen as much better than Rihanna's.
banterfly Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 If they have nothing else to offer, then no. Thankfully, Ms. Swift is an excellent songwriter and creative genius. Her vocals may not be out of this world but they are perfect for the kind of music that she makes.
Baby Judas Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Sadly, no. Black people have to be excellent at every field before people notices them.

halcyonday Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Rihanna can't hold a note to save her life. The most talentless pop singer to ever exist, I fear. An industry plant.
Gautier Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 There are several examples but Rihanna having a career is probably the best.

Gui Blackout Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Rihanna, Janet Jackson immediately come to mind And they don't have a redeeming quality like Taylor's generational talent in songwriting

Janet has a soft voice naturally which does not mean she’s vocally unskilled. Anyone that has actual vocal knowledge would tell you she’s 100x the vocalist Taylor is let’s not Please NEVER say the words Janet and vocalist in the same sentence again.
FightDragonsWithMe Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 (edited) Rihanna has pretty privilege that's her talent Edited April 21, 2023 by FightDragonsWithMe

Erreur2 La Nature Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Taylor Swift might be a terrible singer but there are many black artists that are just as bad at singing live. Weird thread...

John Slayne Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 The standard is definitely higher, especially for black women. There is many talentless and mediocre men around though, of all colours and ethnicities.
Ice Cream Skies Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Yes. Lil Nas X, anyone? Alicia Keys, Ciara, Kehlani... all made careers out of barely being able to sing.
Superbitch Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 There are quite a few lol. A lot of whisper singers are hot nowadays.
