Look at Rihanna

Rihanna is not the strongest vocalist, but she has a charismatic voice.

"Charismatic voice"

"Ear for hits"

"Unique tone"

"Fashionista"

"Songwriter's muse"

Can the Navy actually say something about this woman's actual musical talent? :gaycat6:

So then the answer in the topic title is yes.

Rihanna's music is actually listenable. I don't know much about who's more talented. But when taking writing in consideration probably Taylor is more talented.

Hell no

Not you guys bringing up Rihanna when she has more range (Love On The Brain) and actually gets dragged by her community when gives us the bare minimum

Janet also gets dragged for her vocals but she had to make up for it through her high-energy performances and her music has depth.

Out of all the pop girls Taylor gets praised for doing the bare minimum, it's the truth.

Rihanna got dragged by her community for her lack of vocals since the first day she came out!

Everyone compared her to Beyonce and she had to really prove herself vocally.

Taylor can be mediocre because her audience doesn't expect much from her.

Rihanna's vocals still aren't anything to brag about. The fact the Navy only ever uses her LOOTB performance tells you something

So Janet is allowed to make up for lackluster vocals by giving high-energy performances, but Taylor's songwriting (the literal point of listening to music and the thing that, if it doesn't work, none of the other talents will matter) doesn't make up for her vocals? And the concept of "depth" in music is a nebulous one -- artists aren't required to stuff metaphor, message, and meaning into everything they write, even though a good amount of Taylor's catalogue does, in fact, have depth, as you all define it. OTH just choose to pick Shake it Off and ME! as an example of her songwriting.

Yes. She’s definitely a better vocalist than Taylor Swift

I don't have to try again. I detect two lies in your sentence so try again :gayoncecat1:

A unique tone is a musical talent :deadbanana4:

One that can't even be learned in the same way like learning to play the guitar or the piano (which are talents in themselves) so I don't know why y'all think a warm and interesting unique voice tone isn't a natural talent :rip:

And as everyone else who isn't a swiftie (from varying fanbases and not just the navy) has pointed out, Rih is a much better singer than Taylor (who has zero vocal performances that stand out).

Janet certainly knows how to use her voice better than Taylor, and is in fact a better singer than her :rip:

Taylor also just has a very bland voice that can't do much unfortunately which is strange given the amount of time she spent training with seasoned musicians before her fame. I don't think there's a musician who was trained as much with the level of resources available to her. It's great that it showed with her songwriting but strange that it didn't with her voice.

A 5/10 vocalist being better than a 4/10 vocalist doesn’t really say much :dies:

Rihanna can be both a better vocalist than Taylor, and still be a mediocre vocalist herself. The 2 are not mutually exclusive :gaycat6:  But for some reason the navy don’t understand this concept and think that “well she’s better than Taylor!” means she’s somehow not mediocre and actually gifted or something.

Please, if that’s your opinion, that’s your opinion. But Taylor struggles to hit above middle C just standing still lol. She’s not really a vocalist and that’s OK.

Rih could sing every single on of Taylor’s songs but TS could never pull off a Love on the Brain or a Higher. Just doesn’t have the range.

If even swifies acknowledge that Rih is the better singer of the two why are y'all still arguing :deadbanana4:

We know Rihanna isn't one of the most gifted vocalists, I don't think any navy member actually thinks that or has said that. The Rihanna being a better singer point only came up because a swiftie some pages back insinuated that Taylor was the better singer of the two.

Again, I agree with everything you said, but that does NOT make Rihanna a talented or even good vocalist :skull:

It just makes her a mediocre vocalist who’s better than a really mediocre one :dies: at the end of the day neither would make it through Hollywood week on any season of American Idol, being better than Taylor at something Taylor sucks at doesn’t suddenly make her gifted. Not a tough concept!

Well this entire thread is about if black women could be successful if they had mediocre vocal skills like Taylor. The answer is objectively yes because Rihanna is both very-successful and very-mediocre as a vocalist, yet somehow all the navy flooded this saying the answer is actually no because Rihanna is better than Taylor, which doesn’t make sense…??
