:rip: Honestly a video presentation made SM executives look like they suck big time which is why a 70 yr old LSM ate them alive. I truly don't know why they expected LSM just to give up his own company when he still had this much power :rip:

I agree that Kakao will be better for SM but it would have been even better if they didn't attempt to sell SM in the first place and SM stayed independent. Especially considering LSM is already 70. The executive board is the only one to blame for this mess.

I know SK is a capitalistic hell and therefore corporations don't have to follow the law, but is it even legal for HYBE to become the major shareholder of SM? Don't they have antitrust laws or something? :deadbanana2:

I'm pretty sure HYBE would own like AT LEAST 80% of the kpop market if that happened

I've seen you posting a couple times and you even quoted me once and I'll reply to you now

I think you're dumb to think a company is not gonna do anything about someone literally stealing from them (to say the least)

imagine betraying your company, your shareholders and investors while expecting people to just ignore it, come on now

try to see this situation as a grown adult, not only as a k-pop stan

What is going on:bibliahh:

The SM situation is giving early 2000s reality show drama. I don't stan any SM artists and even if I did, that has *** all to do with the corrupt corp making them slave away so I cannot fathom taking the side of a business. But anyway, I'm here with my popcorn eating this drama up. JYPE will be the only OT3 remaining and I'm cackling! The plastic pants did it!

I don't think you have to like or defend SM's management or decision-making to be against a comprehensive monopoly of the k-pop industry. HYBE and Kakao absolutely need to be restricted from throwing their weight around and acquiring other comparable companies, especially by (I'm pretty sure) illegal means - does Korea not have anti-trust laws, like, at all?

Imagine you're looking through SM youtube just trying to find an old girls generation video then that pops up :coffee:

This kpop reporter is doing a twitter space about it

Here's the thing to keep in mind.  Kakao is not a kpop company.  They make their profits selling software and IT services.  Their problem from a growth perspective is that they have not much of a footprint outside of Korea.  Other companies like Naver, SK, etc. have successfully expanded their software/IT brands outside of Korea while Kakao/Daum continue to do what they do best -- make mistakes.

The Chinese/Singaporean/Arabian investors in Kakao (Daum) look at it as a company with growth potential because their just-as-good software/IT services have failed to be deployed outside of Korea, and coattailing  a global consumer exporter like SM may expand their presence in other places.  To them, kpop is just a tentacle for the benefit of the main Kakao blob.

Hybe is a kpop company.  And through their deals with Warner Music, they've proceeded to start to kpop-ize the rest of the music industry.  And SM allows them direct access to things other entertainment consumables other than music, like drama production, movies, advertising, casual dining, resorts, etc. for Korea to get in on.

The Korean government will allow companies to combine to the detriment of their local consumer if it allows the new company to better compete on a global scale.  They've done it with cars, electronics, telecommunications, durable goods, engineering, chemicals, construction -- media would be just another sector.

But is it the correct strategy for the media business?  There's been some big media mergers that have blown up recently.  Hopefully a government crony bureaucrat will be able to figure out the correct course. :keir:

I still dont think SM will get any better even if HYBE withdraws.. especially with their current board. Here's to more bad decisions x

Don’t @ me for the problematic but if these groups are gonna put out English songs, why aren’t they having someone who speaks English sit in on the recording to fix the embarrassing pronunciation issues?

it would’ve been so easy to have someone say “hey, that ain’t right, let’s try that again” when JEONGYEON sang “I need your cøck right now” in Moonlight Sunrise

I imagine most people discussing (and generally defending) Liz's "weight gain" (I want to use inverted commas twice here, but anyway) are young girls, and whether or not these rubbish tabloids realise it, they're inadvertently telling these young girls that their weight is subject to evaluation, and they need to be careful with their appearance regardless of how it affects them internally.

They really worked their asses off. They were booked & busy. That’s what happens when you’re in demand. :coffee2:

Someone explain the weird issue people seem to have with promo these days. Why would you be happy with less content and performances ? Do you stan for the music or just the bragging rights?

I would've love for my faves to get the same bts western push/performances/collabs so I guess i'm just jealous

Same with TXT Yeonjun in Devil By The Window where he pronounces nuisance as “ñèîüšhæïñčë”
