@Witnessed ET Also all their concert clips is making me want to go to one so bad    They look so funny, especially the encore and the performances where they just f*** around instead of having choreography. The whole thing is so unserious, every member is ridiculous. The concert clips might have also bumped up Mingyu into my favorite members list too and I take back anything negative I've said in the past. Hes kind of impossible not to like. I'll try posting less tweets after this for everyone's sake but the concerts look so fun

There used to be a time when an idol could snatch one if they were big enough. Though they were usually reserved for actors.

Taking a shot at this, I'm going to say the decentralization of media consumption, the globalization of K-entertainment, the westernization of Korean culture and lifestyle are some of the main reasons.

 

Like in the west, the usage of more traditional ways of communication to relay news and information has been on the decline. Radio usage in particular is super dead in South Korea, compared to the US for example. With everyone getting their news or entertainment from a different source, it has become more difficult for celebrities to gain widespread recognition.

The Hallyu wave has also turned what were once Korean national stars into international stars. Psy, BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE in Japan as of late, Jung Hoyeon are as popular outside of South Korea, if not more, as they are in South Korea. Sovereignty-like nicknames are no longer appropriate and affectionate nicknames have lost some of their meaning.

Besides, the younger Korean generation has been exposed to the western media influence a lot more than previous generations. Western politics, fashion, music and film, Youtube, Iphone... are all key items in everyone's bag and wardrobe or a daily pastime. Adopting some western values or habits is seen as progressive. With that, titles and nicknames I think are now more perceived as a bit dated and cringe.

 

I've seen some Korean media refer to celebrities like Newjeans as "God's children" and "the 1st mainstream digital artists" but I don't think it's a widespread sentiment like it was with some previous celebrities. 

I'm also under the impression international Kpop fans care more about it than Koreans themselves.

Unfortunately a lot of fans are very unhappy with Mingyu's haircut to the point of making fun of him to his face on weverse and fancalls. They keep calling him a potato and a "dirty potato" without makeup. Hes even expressed being upset by it and they still won't let up

 

At this point, he won't be getting short hair again until the military so enjoy it while it lasts bc evil carrots are at it again
