I was kind of thinking about something that could be one of the topics of discussion for the day (something I want to do regularly):

For those of you who were fans of OT9 SNSD, how did you deal with Jessica’s departure? If she was your bias, did it change how you looked at the group afterward?

It’s been almost 10 years since she left SNSD. With most of the girls at other labels now despite coming together for group comebacks, what would you make of Jessica reuniting with the girls and that leading to her rejoining the group? Think it could happen or has too much damage been done?

I bought their comeback album Lion Heart, I made the video below, I streamed tf out of all their comebacks

the group will NEVER be the same. I never revisit the comebacks post-Jessica because she was literally one of the two main vocals and you can tell. It was the blend of Taeyeon's and Jessica's voices that actually created the sound of Girls' Generation. Yes the rest play a small to bigger role in the harmonies (namely Seohyun), but that distinct SNSD sound was all because of those two, and Jessica's lack in the group is very noticed.

8 people somehow managed to make them look like so much less on stage. I can't explain it. One person shouldn't have this much of an impact but it does. They just look smaller. Their iconic choreos and formations are all based on 9 people as well.

I'll be honest, had it been Sunny or Sooyoung or even Tiffany, I wouldn't have this opinion.

This is the video I made btw lmao:

snsd was lowkey already on their way out in 2014 so honestly i understood jessica's perspective and didnt care

but jessica shouldve joined forever 1 and surprised us all appearing out of no where for the last chorus :'(

Were they on their way out though? They smashed after, and that's without their most distinctive member vocals wise.

Releasing Forever 1 was... Well, uneventful to me without Jessica. The whole illusion of their everlasting friendship was ruined for me.

They have other great aspects about them and I love the girls' personalities regardless, but it was after that when I realized that they really are just colleagues rather than sisters.

Like you guys don't understand the sheer blueprint that SNSD's friendship image was and is now used by Twice for example

There aren't any girl groups that did this before SNSD. Trust and believe that no one gives a sh.t about Kara's Gyuri and Nicole together, or Wonder Girls' Sunmi and which ever other member idk their names

SNSD had separate fansites for their duo friendships, people wrote dissertations on who was best friends with whom and why and how and etc, and there were so many fan edits

Like this was so extreme, I'm still not sure if TaeNy is genuinely a friendship thing or like a self inserted lesbian thing

Google "TaeNy taeyeon" and it will automatically finish with "TaeNy taeyeon possessive tiffany fanfic". People were OBSESSED with the inner group dynamics

And one of the bigger (maybe the biggest, honestly) reasons why Taeyeon was blamed for Jessica's departure was because TaengSic fans had been analyzing their behaviour around each other for a long time, and noticed how Tiffany had gotten closer to Taeyeon, with Jessica distancing herself from both

what 100s? new jeans is still charting inside top 40 and cool With you is still charting top 80

and those three songs that ive released weren't just any songs that have mv, they are title tracks just like what newjeans did. guaranteed those 3 songs will still rise tho but I fear they can't top I am or even kitsch charting but it's fine as long as they're stable

IVE - Wonyoung

New Jeans - aesthetic/fashion/next level synergy between the members/min heejin

NMIXX - vocals

Aespa - vocals/most prestigious company

GIDLE - risk taking

StayC - none, sorry, no shade to them but BEP can't make hits anymore

Ryan, I like the "discussion for the day" idea, but does this topic really have to be the one we go with :gaycatx:

Time and time again, some of the resident sones have shown they are incapable of sensible discussion when it comes to Jessica's exit whenever it comes up, often the discussion just breaks down into them accusing her of being a criminal, villain, attacking her looks "jawshavesica" or calling her "disfigured by plastic surgery" "horse face" etc. It just devolves into misogynistic and very unpleasant language rapidly.

Or they parrot proven to be untrue media planted stories, such as her planning to quit for marriage, outing Seohyun as a lesbian in her book, or being up to her eyeballs in debt etc. None of these are true.

Just go back to this thread in May 2022 (when Jessica released her second YA novel, Bright) to see what I mean by that.

On the question, my personal opinion is that they are best as 9. The whole thing was sad and unnecessary, her livelihood was taken away from her by the members and SM...and she has had to fight against the odds to get it back. I think a full reunion is *almost but not totally* impossible.

Jessica (and Krystal) has hinted at her falling into a severe depression after she was forced to leave and nobody checked on her. I don't blame her if she doesn't want to revisit the group again and just wants to move forward.

tbh I’d say STAYC also have solid live vocals. they’re not powerhouses, but didn’t their mics being mostly on and the girls sounding stable during ASAP promotions partly help them breakout domestically?

There’s a little decline compared to their previous era,

The same with IVE who didn’t even chart this era, while their previous comeback with I AM charted despite being a Monday release with less tracking hours.

Even Kitsch debuted on the chart back then

But let’s wait for the final unfiltered numbers

- newjeans are 4th gen leaders

- genie best kpop song of all time

- favorite is nct 127 best song

- blackpink should release more bop like playing with fire, as if its your last.. (basically more melodies and actual choruses).

- thanks to that user that posts kpop news everytime
