This ain’t the smash I was hoping for.

It won’t make more people interested in her I fear.

This isn’t the type of song she needed to serve rn :rip:

We needed an undeniable hit and this isn’t lead material! :skull:

Tiktok isn’t touching this either :deadbanana:

At least she was looking great last night

She is gonna lose again, somehow she always stays there, I cant stand it

I truly don’t understand this woman :dies: she did nothing but serve iconic pop bops perfect for radio but still original for 4 years as an independent artist and now that she’s having her big label break, she keeps making these odd musical choices.

Like THIS is lead single material for your debut album? This is the song you expect people to fall in love with after coming from Unholy. It’s just so boring and lifeless. Imagine if she was serving Do Me/HTB quality still? She’d be huge :gaycat6:

Date?

Someone on Lanaboards said 28th of October but I don’t know how accurate that is. Knowing Republic it’s pretty plausible.

It actually sounds like a cute little bop -- people need to let go of the idea of Kim blowing up, she needs to just keep nurturing her niche audience.

It’s not us that want her to blow up, it’s her stupid ass record label :skull: we just want her to get a hit so she can be out of limbo and release anything she wants. This song will most likely flop and she’ll be back in limbo and announce she’s reworking the album yet again

It’s her label. They make the worst decisions for Kim.

She’s under the smaller Luke-led imprint which means less resources and clearly less brains. Making a drastic pivot to this kind of sound that Kim has never been known for is a huge risk, especially at a time when they want her to go viral. Riding the coattails of Unholy with a midtempo Scandipop song is a weird choice lbr. This song is more of a 3rd single or just album track.

If Tiktok is their only method of building hype (which it is) then why did they tease the long ass intro that’s mostly guitar? Who on Tiktok is gonna stop and listen to that? Also there’s no dumb dance to accompany it. That’s like rule #1 with tiktok viral hits. Amigo/Republic is once again mishandling Kim.

I'd disagree with the last part. TikTok dances were a 2020 fad. :chick1:

They should've just stuck with her original girly pop sound.

About Damn Time (one of the year’s biggest hits) had a memorable TikTok dance. Beyoncé’s CUFF IT is currently viral on the platform and has one too. They still matter.

I like but im not sure how it'll do as a lead. Its so different from unholy. I feel like she should of released hit from the back and added a feature. That song matches unholys energy.

This is bombing on tiktok and there is 0 hype around this song. She’s literally begging everyone in every tiktok video with the snippets to pre-save it. It’s clearly not gonna kickstart any album rollout anytime soon :cries:

it doesn’t sound like the verses and chorus flow together... it’s giving 2 completely diff songs then the chorus kills the vibe. i’ll reserve full judgement until i hear the studio version tho :emofish:

agreed. that song would satisfy her existing fans (besides the fact it’s leaked ages ago) and casual gays, but has a commercial appeal too.

Exactly. Unholy had one too. And Lizzo’s new single 2 Be Loved is largely being carried by the new tiktok dance. It still (sadly) matters in 2022

Lol I’m sorry but “hit it from the back” does not have commercial appeal. Radio wouldn’t touch that. That shoulda never been entertained as a possible single

Kim needs to veer away from abrasive over-the-top sexual music if she wants to break into mainstream. There’s a balance. I fear she either goes too far (Slvt Pop) or too tame (JWAR) and needs to find that sweet spot in the middle

it reminds me of So Good by Halsey and if i recall correctly, it has also MM production.

It also feels like a song it would play in a romcom after they fight and before they get back together

but i dig it. i was hoping for more controversial lyrics from the title tho.

I do agree with what some of y'all was saying, she delivered bop after bop being independent and now that she's on a label and it's her big break she delivers this...

it's still a great chill song (from the live performance) but she can do so much more. 100% the label's fault imo. i still hope the song shows some results commercially speaking, so she can have more freedom with every release and we finally get the album

yeah it leaked but she could rework it , bring its up in a studio session and rework some melodies, add some hooks , try a harder production and add a feature.

Do y'all know who she needs? Tove lo.

She needs to have sessions with her , it matches her vibe.

If she wanted to nurture us she would release TOTL VOL 3  in 3 weeks but for some idiotic reason she is not willing to do that.

The song is a grower but it's so odd how they picked this for a lead, especially now that she has some hype :deadbanana4:

It's not a song the "yas queen slay" crowd would go crazy about it so it was definitely made with the general public in mind... the problem is: it's not exactly a strong song to put her on the map among the GP.

It doesn't have any meme lyric to make it a trend on TikTok, nor is a dance song for a viral moment. It's a good song, i love it, but i don't see anyone outside our bubble that would care that much for it. I would LOVE to be wrong though.

It's giving Ruin My Life by Zara Larsson - not that they sound alike bc they don't, it's just how it's odd for a lead and u can't really tell what they had in mind. What public they're trying to reach with it. It's something that sounds just there.

pls. it slaps. the only issue is the overtly sexual song title.

It's funny how Kim's label, Republic, has the word "public" in it bc they have NO idea what Kim material to deliver to the public. We have to laugh

My theory is they chose Jesus as the lead single months ago in response to the SIut Pop backlash and to scrub her image clean a bit. They had it planned out well before Unholy smashed and they were already too committed to the song to save it as a later single. That's why it feels extra confusing to put this out in the midst of all the hype and attention she's getting. She's about to hit 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Imagine we got All She Wants instead. That song has way more viral potential.

But who knows, maybe JWAR is mediocre enough to resonate with the straights but I don't think it will take off

it sounds pretty good. catchy. i'm so over this song structure though. it makes it feels like the song goes no where for me. i'm not sure why it bothers me so much but it really does.
