Until today her own directed videos have been well directed, I have nothing to complain. LH really fails to make you feel the song, the editing doesn't match with the rhytme and this is what a MV should do. This time we needed a real Music videos director able to direct this, to make the ryhtm a visual content. It's not about being a good or bad director, a lot of professional talented movie directors couldn't make it very well, it's just a very specifical thing. This is why there are so many directors for all life just make music videos, they have a particulare visual taste for that.

Finally a post that is a fair critique instead of acting like she’s the worst director ever, I think this is very valid. It did have some messy cuts and editing and so did Bejeweled tbh but I am personally satisfied with them because I view music videos differently than most people. For me, I just want visuals to put to the song and give me a mental image to enhance the listening experience. I don’t care much about rewatching them as a whole as I do just having a mental image of stills from it (if that makes sense?)

However… for most people they care about videos like a movie/TV show and want more than just nice stills to remember. So I guess for some this missed the mark. I honestly find it reminiscent of Style where it’s very aesthetic and visually nice but sometimes the visuals feel off with the rhythm.

Ok, I was only looking at the Global chart. 99.9% it's because of that autoplay thing, just like all the other songs with weird spikes. Lavender Haze on the other hand should be because of the MV announcement, it gained 200k which is pretty normal.

Pretty cute boost for LH since it was just from an announcement and it didn’t even have a full tracking day of effect. I hope it can push to 2M today.

Also slay at WCS :cm:

Def from the autoplay thing but hey I would love to see it pull a Nonsense. Imagine talent winning that hard :giraffe:

Imagine WCS having the chart run that Nonsense has had so far with those +20 and -37 everyday. ATRL would be fun at least.

I actually can't stop rewatching the MV :giraffe:. I just love this vibey 70s understated psychedelic aesthetic.

So many breathtaking shots:

I love how the video is a subdued Teenage Dream, it captures being in love, which I think the video achieved. It's not as strong as the Teenage Dream video though, I feel like, as many people said, the rhythm of the song an the transition of the scenes could ben more solid and tight.

And damn at Anti-Hero falling so much on radio, what is happening :deadbanana2:I thought it would have great longevity on radio. I hope it stabilizes soon.

I think it does so long as the file isn't too large.

Or at least I haven't had any problems with mine :giraffe:

We’re going to be getting the same “she’s the worst director of all time” meltdowns every time she releases a music video from here on out, huh? :rip:

She is not going to stop directing her videos and she’s doing more than fine. I would agree she needs to bring her all for her movie, and I’m not saying she doesn’t still have a lot to learn or improve on. But these are just music videos, and she’s not going for a big cinema-style video this era either. There’s just nothing glaringly wrong to any average person about these videos and her skill level is more than fine for the style she’s going for. And lbr y’all would not say one single thing about the direction if someone else’s name was slapped on it instead of hers.

The fact that I know to avoid any of her base threads when she releases something because everyone there is having a meltdown, meanwhile everyone else in other places is just enjoying themselves, including non-fans :priceless:

Her best videos were with Joseph Kahn.

It’s because she is cannibalizing it’s longevity to push LH, which is what I said yesterday and then some users in here started dragging me (and not even bothering to do it in my quotes, as if I wouldn’t see) :foxaylove2:

But it’s fine. We will get LH to eventually climb to 19 on the BBH100 so who cares about more weeks in the top 10 for AH??? :foxaylove3:

Anti-Hero has been falling for nearly two weeks on radio. The release of LH MV has nothing to do with it. If anything, it had its lowest drop of the last week and a half yesterday.

The first AM updates are lukewarm... While countries like Singapore, Australia and Indonesia had nice updates, the song fell 3 spots in New Zealand and the US.

I'm convinced LH was meant to be first single, and even released pre-album, but she changed her mind at some point. Everything from it beginning with meet me at midnight (her og post re midnigts had that phrase) to Mastermind (vinyl cover) and Maroon hints (incense burning on the shelf). This video perfectly sets up the aesthetic of the whole era.

Really curious what happened behind the scenes that led them to switch singles. I'm guessing it's why we didn't get the pre-album single.

My guess is videos were originally meant to go:

LH - sets up era, upbeat dancey

AH - continuation of LH with outfit, house, more toned down, catchy and vibey 2nd single

BJ - close era, silly fun and poppy and lead into speak now tv

I am not an expert on radio or even someone who knows how to check their charts so I won’t  debate this much more (especially if someone comes with hard receipts to destroy me), but from a quick look at @swifferupdates on Twitter, it looks like AH has been stable and peaking until the 20th, while LH was peaking on radio every week since Jan 11. We can’t say for certain that she saw LH rising for a few weeks, and decided to push LH more over AH as soon as it started dropping - but I think that’s more likely than her just deciding to randomly swap their positions on the steaming playlists this week and release the LH music video now. They barely gave AH a week to see if it would stabilize

:clap3:

107 million last week, 107 million this week

WCS :dies::bibliahh:

Global cutoff to chart was 992k. So that's a whole lot of streams filtered for it.... People having it on loop

I think this is correct. She also probably only released BJ when she did because she wanted to secure the entire top 10, and it had just worked out that BJ was on the cusp and she already had the video. I think she probably was going to release LH second once she changed her mind to release AH as the lead, but then changed it again when she saw how well the album was performing first week

"Pulling from radio" is a fan made up concept. Radio will play multiple songs by the same artist if they want to. Just last year we had Harry + Doja occupying half of the top 10. Besides, LH has been stalling for weeks so where's the evidence that AH dropping is due to LH being pushed? AH spent multiple weeks at #2 on pop behind Unholy before it went #1 and even returned to #1 after dropping to #2. It was always going to drop eventually. It already matched a lot of her biggest hits for weeks in the top 10 and it's still predicted to be #3 in its 14th week

Well seems like you are wrong :celestial5:

With the crazy amount of filtered streams it got. Sure seems like the streaming parties, because of the John Mayer announcement, made it rise

What's stopping these people from mass streaming LH instead?  Or the superior TGW?
