The way my time is spent on discord and twitter nowadays also, ik it's not exactly busting out the seams rn, but if any of you want a bluesky invite PM me. It's much easier to monitor TV (and other) discussions with their feed algorithim. Lots of TV critics are on there and some of the press sites like Variety and Deadline are there. Very true! Most TV twitter folks i follow migrated to Bluesky but for some reason i still scroll on twitter On 2/3/2024 at 1:09 PM, McNulty said: Currently I'm watching the new season of True Detective, I haven't seen anything last year except for the new seasons of the Bear and Succession, I've so many shows I need to watch Beef, Blue Eye Samurai, Silo, Bad Sisters, Andor, Poker Face, Fargo S05, OMITB S03, Invincible,....etc The bear is not a comedy right? Or does it get funnier? bc i'm currently on the first season and it is more serious than succession lol I like Edebiri's character tho! 1

The academy needs to update these categories. 1
KasioKas Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) Half way into Mr/Mrs Smith and i'm surprised I like it so much Even if John Smith annoys me a lot. Parker Posey ate everyone up acting-wise on ep 4 my gosh Edited February 8 by KasioKas

Wicked Posted July 24 Author Posted July 24 My fault for double posting but we aren't going to get anything like this again Also primetimer closing down last month was depressing. They were filling the hole AV Club decided to ignore, but now Danette Chavez (EIC at primetimer) is now editor in chief at AV Club.

Imo the huge gap between seasons, the so many streaming services and the binge-watch model are big reasons why the golden age of TV is dead, I don't think it's solely the quality of the shows itself. for example Stranger things even tho it's huge but it would've been even bigger if they released it yearly with episode a week model 1 1

The focus on IP and only established show runners/creators is a detriment to the form... Long time EPs and writers are all waiting for the chance to help their own series but it's considered a risk now. The character driven drama series in particular is what's suffering most. I don't think a series like Rectify or The Leftovers would be greenlit these days, and that's a shame. It'll change because everything is a cycle but for now it's kinda bleek. I did just start Industry though, it's cool. I saw an interesting tweet in reference to The Bear S3 though. Louis CK is probably the most influential figure in modern western television and people tiptoe around discussing him or his shows now. Edited July 25 by Wicked

Gosh... remember "Horace and Pete" On 7/24/2024 at 2:01 AM, Wicked said: I know TV is over cause these mid year best of lists have a bunch of mid on them. Except IWTV, of course. The bear breaking 30 Rock's emmy noms record further confirmed to me how it's so over lmao But yeah.... haven't been up-to-date with what's been on this year. I just downloaded IWTV bc i hear good things about it. As for the rest, Baby Reindeer (uncomfortable but not in a good way), Abbott Elementary (cute), Hacks (i don't see the point of it, and apparently the new season get more ~serious lol) Girls5Eva and Fantasmas were cool. Curb had an 8/10 season with a perfect ending! I guess the leaves me with Shōgun/Ripley and Mr. And Mrs. Smith which i probably won't watch anytime soon
Maddox Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Thinking about it, i doubt Louie would ever have the same renaissance as Dunham. Kinda crazy that despite his influence on post 2015 TV, no one is willing to revisit his show. Not even the anti-woke reactionary type want to touch it... The only legacy that show has is that clip of the fake Fox News show where he debates a Christian girl about masturbating 1

Peak stuff. Baby Reindeer pissed me off. Mr & Mrs. Smith wasn't for me. 4 hours ago, Maddox said: Thinking about it, i doubt Louie would ever have the same renaissance as Dunham. So many episodes taking a deep dive into his mind, the episode about him being forced to show his private parts as a kid was 5x harder to watch then when I originally watched it for the implications... 1

How far are you into the show? I remember the Late night/David Lynch episodes being soo brilliant. I also think the 4th season was good even if it wasn't as "funny" as the first 3. I probably won't revisit it anytime soon lmao -- Will we ever get a good procedural show that's as good as EVIL, i truly doubt it

I have a lot of thoughts I've been jotting down a long the way. Idk if you're still on bluesky or not but Sepinwall just put up a good TVSky starter pack: https://bsky.app/profile/sepinwall.bsky.social/post/3laoouvn6cc2v
