2024 US Election Megathread 🇺🇸🏛️

Message added by Lee!!,

It was decided based on feedback from the spring 2023 town hall to transition this thread back to being election specific. With the Civics section being able to house specific threads on many issues, we think having a generalized politics thread is not completely necessarily anymore.

With that said, please continue to be respectful and remember that you do not always need to respond to everyone.

It’s refreshing to see the honestly from the Biden admin about this. They have followed all the protocols on turning the documents in when found. Total opposite from what trump did.

it’s just nice to see after all the trump lies and deflection

He is just trying to be upfront with this now so it won’t become a massive scandal later on closer to the election.

In a different timeline where Biden doesn’t do this, Trump gets indicted for his documents/obstruction and the republican led House stumbles upon some lost Biden documents during one of their 50 investigations where it becomes a huge ordeal for the Biden administration.

Extremely noteworthy that they suppressed the information from coming out until after the midterm, yet the news on what happened at Mar-a-Lago came out in real time.

Thats not being upfront and honest. That’s Biden’s DOJ acting as his own political weapon. Something he campaigned against when he ran for president.

That was Trump’s dumb decision to announce the raid on Truth Social.

The DOJ has a rule to not interfere with elections. Immediately releasing this information a few days before a midterm election seems like interference.

There was no reason for Biden’s team to announce to the public that they found documents. They gave them to the National Archive and the information was given to the public the way it should.

The whole, “Biden suppressed this information” republican talking point is dishonest.

Anyway, let’s see what more documents turn up and see if any of them are a National security risk. If any investigation shows Biden has broken a law, he should be held accountable in some way.

Withholding that information and strategically releasing it after an election has passed is election interference. Lord you people are shameless. :ahh:

Ok, so you are implying that Biden’s team asked Merrick Garland to withhold this information until after the election?

Well it looks like Garland is going to make a statement later today. We’ll see what he has to say

Either that, or Garland withheld the information on Biden's behalf to help him get through the midterms without the public embarrassment that he's currently going through right now. The hypocrisy of Biden publicly attacking Trump and being guilty of negligently holding onto classified documents FOR SIX YEARS would have been rich.

Anyway, Garland's clearly backed into a corner now that he's launched a special counsel investigation into Biden's crimes with 10x more alacrity than how he approached the Trump issue. :ahh:

If this type of thing happened before the Trump investigation, it would have been a nothing issue. But since the DOJ is about to indict Trump for a case that is related to classified documents, they need to investigate Biden so they can claim that they are not partisan.

Trump will be indicted for obstruction, not improper handling of classified documents. He lied to the National Archives and tried to hide documents from the FBI.

If Biden did what Trump did, I would 100% support impeachment. We will see what the investigation finds. But seeing that the National Archives never made a request for these documents to be returned, I am assuming it will lead to nothing

"THEY ARE SO TRANSPARENT AND HONEST!"

They held it in for two months so they could claim a moral high ground in the election by bashing Trump as a traitor to the country even though both committed malfeasance with classified material.

I mean… if people want to make the argument that Garland didn’t want to announce the Biden documents so close to the midterm elections because he was going to protect Biden and that Trump’s raid was close enough to the midterms as well both seem kind of a stretch. Donald’s seems far enough away from the midterms, and there was the obstruction part and Bidens despite it being his DOJ nominee was too close to the midterms. I do buy that and I’m not the kind of person to give them credit.

He was certainly backed up into a corner enough to have to announce the other Special Counsel as well so I guess let’s go from there.
