how would y'all feel about a solo Lee movie somewhere down the line a la Birds of Prey?

If it's with other female co-leads with a female director and female screenwriters then yes, I do not want any men near Gaga

As long as it will be directed by a good female director.

This is 100% never ever happening lol

It's best to let JFAD go tbh. It's not going to get any Oscar nominations. At best a Comedy/Musical Actress Golden Globe nomination. Both soundtracks bombed. It's unfortunate but everyone has a panned flop from time to time.

Well well well :coffee:

I think the rumored conversation is exaggerated, but it's clear they weren't happy with the final cut. If you look at their solo interviews, Gaga and Phoenix seemed comfortable with each other, having fun, laughing, and smiling. But in Venice, they acted weird and cold. The same thing happened in other interviews whenever Todd was present.

So it looks like JFAD will break even. Making it not a total flop. Hopefully Gaga will snatch some acting nominations. She might get an Oscar nom for best original song

Spoiler

It won't. 200M + 70-100M marketing.

750M to break even, 600M to save face.

This will probably end somewhere between 350M to 450M

Forbes reported that they need around 450 million to break even.
190 million budget and 100 million marketing that brings the total to 290 million.

This will end up in the same range

The Washington Post just dropped an article on JFAD's flop. Repeats the same things we've seen in other articles, but it reinforces the narrative that Gaga is NOT to blame.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/2024/10/06/joker-2-box-office/

The subtitle is "Not even Lady Gaga could save the anti-hero musical drama, which reportedly earned a bleak domestic opening of $40 million in domestic ticket sales." Which would imply that Gaga is a box office force otherwise! :gaygacat4:

Other mentions of Gaga:

"The second act of "Joker" has left audiences unamused, falling flat at the box office, sparking fan outrage over Lady Gaga's limited screen time..."

"Still many Lady Gaga fans alike took aim at the film for underutilizing the actress's talents. In particular, the singer's fans lamented about her limited screen time amid reports claiming that the actress is featured for less than a quarter of the movie's 139-minute run time.

And others slammed the film for misleading promotional material and called for Warner Bros. to release an extended cut with scenes of Lady Gaga in the official trailer that they say were omitted from the final movie. "Why are majority of the visuals featuring @ladygaga in the trailer missing from the actual @jokermovie?!" one user wrote on X. "Release the Gaga cut!!"

Weird

To break even, a movie typically needs to earn 2.5 to 3 times its production budget due to marketing and other costs.

Studios don't get the full box office revenue. In the U.S., studios keep about 50-55%, while internationally they get around 40-45%.

In China, studios only receive about 25% of box office earnings due to strict revenue-sharing rules.

Let's say a random movie :eli: costs $200 million to produce and $100 million to market (total $300 million). To break even:

At 50% domestic revenue share, the movie would need to earn $600 million at the global box office to give the studio its $300 million back. But with lower international shares, especially from countries like China, this number may need to be higher.
