Something a whole lot of Liddos are not ready to reckon with is that they're no longer her only audience.

Gaga has a pop audience, a jazz audience, a movie audience, a makeup audience, the list goes on. Yes her pop audience is her biggest but we're no longer her gravity of attention and that realization has broken quite a few brains. If you're not mentally prepared to endure movies, makeup, and stripped down performances on top of pop albums, spare your mental health and leave the base.

It's way too premature to have heated discourse about a performance that hasn't even happened yet ctfu :deadbanana:

I wanted to quickly circle back to this, since we're still somehow in the thick of this discussion right now on the eve of her big perfomance but it's long so I'll spoiler it I guess :dies:

She actually does in fact do that, and she balances both (and more) very effortlessly and adeptly, which is why she put out a remix album of her last pop effort featuring hyperpop and PC music artists and just weeks later, her second jazz album in Oct '21, all while getting ready for her movie premiere in Nov.

The difference: some of us stan Lady Gaga the pop artist only while some of us stan Lady Gaga the artist, period. Some of us are at peace with where she is and fine with her pace of doing things while some of us are perpetually stuck in a loop of cherished memories from 10, 12, 15 years ago.

In 2024, Lady Gaga is not just a pop star. She's a movie star. A jazz singer. A beauty entrepreneur. She runs a philanthropic foundation. And then there's the added layer of her living a discreet private life. These are all the different facets of her today and she has worked very hard to nurture and preserve every single one of them. That's the reality, a reality many are unable to confront and accept because it challenges the mental image they still have of her from all those years ago which just is not congruent with who she is today. That, combined with an intense parasocial relationship from the very beginning wounded by her total withdrawal after harrowing experiences with fame, substance abuse and multiple traumas, results in a cycle of disappointments, and in some extreme cases even feelings of a "betrayal of trust", and that discontentment spills on to every every project that she subsequently takes up to the point where they reach a place that they are unable to enjoy literally anything she does, and even deride her creative choices.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the frustrations mainly stem from the fact that she now "gives the gays what they want" when she wants to, on her own terms, and not when they want her to. Her fans want that sense of control back, and she refuses to relinquish it. She's not a dummy. She knows what she's doing and why she's doing it. There's an intent, a purpose, behind every single thing that she does.

The good thing though is, all this discourse is completely pointless anyway since the GP regards her as a very talented, successful, versatile, and creative artist. Yes, even today. Because that's who she is.

Anyways, she's going to deliver, and devour, as always. A little over 24 hours until the ceremony starts.

Took the words right out of my mouth and SPILLED. :clap3:

They want to re-live 2011 so bad. Thing is, I'd rather be in 2024 where she's 1000x more versatile, interesting, and acclaimed.

I wonder which other MPG base would have her fans fighting if their fave was invited to perform at the Olympics on the eve of the performance?

Spoiler

I can potentially agree with everything you said, but there's no need to act superior to others as if they are mentally ill. I don't think it's that deep, or at least I hope it's not.   Personally, I was just expressing a desire for something she could do. This is a pop forum, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions without offending others.

And in the end, it doesn't matter what I wish or want to see; she will do what she will do, and I can only express my opinions on that.

She's the most talented artist of her generation and I will die on that hill, my desire for something other than covers comes just from that.

Also, thank God she's not "giving the gays what they want," because look at Katy.

This makes sense with the Joker30 tea about her singing a Cabaret number + possibly a medley

Look I'm sorry if I dampened the mood. I'm also excited for Gaga's performance! Just hope she brings something new and unexpected (not necessarily non-jazz really). As someone said it's a lot of emotions and discussion for a performance that didn't happen yet - I got too ahead of myself.
