Leptine Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Since some of you wanted to know about Gaga possible competition, Amy Adams is getting lot of hype-curiosity for this project

I'm calling it now, she's going to be the biggest competition. Way more than Angelina and Zendaya will be, at least. Amy has one of the biggest overdue/robbed/snubbed narratives in Hollywood aside from Glenn Close, a studio that knows how to win Best Actress Oscars (5 of the last 7 were from Searchlight films), and probably a great performance too. Let's hope Warner kicks it into high gear during Awards Season (I have no doubt Gaga's performance is going to be great). 1
Bhabylon Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Gaga needs to do smaller grassroots types of campaign. Get in front of voters and peers. I used to work in publicity for an indie film company and these types of efforts made such a big difference for us. Might be different with a big studio, though. Idk

Idk Big studio acting campaigns seem to have the most success when a prospective nominee has other respected actors (or big names from across the industry) campaigning on their behalf. It doesn't look desperate, boosts their credibility, and those connections can encourage voters to put the actor/actress in question high up on the ballot come nomination time. Now Gaga helped Bradley Cooper out by going to his Maestro premiere this year (and might of campaigned for him behind the scenes, but we have no way of knowing that). And while that man is horrible at actually winning an Oscar, he's great at getting nominated for them. I'm sure he has enough connections to members of the acting branch to rank him (or anyone he campaigns for) high enough during voting to get him the nom. If she can get Bradley and other well-connected actors to campaign for her behind the scenes with members of the acting branch like Penelope Cruz and Kristen Stewart allegedly () did then that can probably help her more than just about anything else in terms of campaigning. That's just my two cents though, and you probably know a lot more since you've actually worked in the industry. What kind of events were most successful (private parties vs showing up for film screenings for example)? 1

I feel like for our most successful films, we'd have private screenings at CAA, which were followed by parties where people would schmooze and connect. And that kinda helped build hype early on. Once it was closer to awards season, I just remember having 2,3 screenings to go to a week from late October to January Mixture of both Q&As that were open to the public, and private ones for people in the industry. They def paid off. But we were more niched into international films and documentaries, so it may have been different. I just remember my boss at the time got her invitation to the Academy during the 2018-2019 cycle, and her getting drunk and telling me Gaga couldn't act. Idk I don't think she'll do much campaigning tbh. Just promo for the movie and Actors on Actors most likely. The movie will be huge.

Miracle Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Also, girlies, the VAST majority of Oscar winners do A LOT of promo for the award. Gaga will need it. A super lowkey campaign isn't going to work when no matter how acclaimed Joker 2 isn't gonna be a critics darling like Saoirse upcoming movies. Even then, every Oscar nominee does an insane amount of promo...she just needs to not act as desperate as Bradley Cooper, and if she does, be fun about it. Anyway, the #cinephiles are already betting on Saoirse, so even if Gaga serves the best performance of all time on FAD, she will still be ridiculed for anything she says by that annoying part of the population. 1
