Taylor Swift uses legal threats to silence criticism and when she can't do that she mobilizes her fanbase against anybody/any idea that she has no legal standing with. If Lady Gaga was afraid to take criticism she would focus solely on the things that people praise her for and what fans want from her and devolve into a shallow caricature of herself like Taylor Swift has in the 2020s. What Gaga has actually done is ignore the fans and public at every turn since day 1. An intelligent person knows that in order to approach people who are adversarial towards you, that you need to meet them on their level. First of all I'm an OLDRH and even I can admit that you need to keep her songwriting ability out of your mouth when discussing girls like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande. Chromatica is half a breakup album and half a mental health album. Her approach as a writer is definitely inspired by 80s pop and rock more than current trends but she isn't a weak writer. She tends to let the general theme of a track/album speak for itself instead of narrating specific events/moments in her life, there are ways in which this is even harder than just talk-singing your journal over a beat, there are ways in which this is easier than that too, they're just different approaches to being a recording artist. Second of all you don't understand the definition of provocative. Taylor Swift is inescapable right now so she sneaks her way into discourse that was already happening with or without her. Gaga provokes conversations about causes she cares about. Whether its bullying, alzheimers, gay rights, mental health awareness, or whatever else, she uses her art as a tool to get people talking. Whenever Gaga tries to do something that's more in line with Taylor's brand of "provocative" where you just do something edgy for no reason or lazily endorse an already overwhelmingly popular political cause it comes across as very performative and she gets dragged to hell and back. This is bizarre on several levels, first of all she hasn't done much in terms of "weird" fashion since 2014. Second of all, we went from neon stripper outfits for chromatica, to more traditional glamour for love for sale, to bare faced in a t shirt in jeans on stage at the OSCARS for her most recent public performance(of Hold My Hand), I don't know how further from the truth you could be because clearly she's not trying to conform to anything more than the character she's portraying in that moment which is all she has ever tried to do with her outfits. All 3 of these looks also went against the "vision the world has for her" by not matching what a normal person envisions when the name Lady Gaga is mentioned. This just screams "I AM A REPUBLICAN" and doesn't align with any reality so I don't even know where to begin to respond to this point other than to say that the meat dress would have been as shocking in 2024 as it was in 2010 and that Gaga's eccentricity has toned down more than the world has shifted around her. Still don't understand how you can simultaneously say that she's generic, that she's conforming to the world's view of her(which lbr she's not seen as a generic pop star), and that the world has also adapted to how weird she is, there's some mutual exclusivity to these claims. Chromatica outside of like 2 songs has a very hopeful tone and is about grappling with serious mental issues and finding yourself again after a messy breakup, I understand how a Swiftie who's used to lyrics that spell out every detail down to the color of dress she was wearing when she had the thought she's writing about would struggle to understand subtext though. an album about the things she was going through at the time underscored by the healing power of dance music, you're being daft ignoring songs like Alice and SFA which plainly spell this out to a level Gaga rarely does with anything Thank you for this post! 2

Arts not the charts baby While I do not think Gaga cares a lot about charts (at least not as much as her fans), not debuting at #1 because of Beyonce or Taylor's third or fourth week would just look bad and start the era off as a dud. That coveted #1 debut is important for every pop girl no matter who they are just for optics purposes. Unless she plans to do something big, like a full visual album and surprise drop, she will have to play the old-fashioned game. 1

Single will probably come no earlier than April if they're trying to keep her on an expedited schedule. Who knows, maybe it could be for the better. She can have a bit more time to polish up the record and vinyl will be ready.
