Kevin2803 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) K.D.S. Best of 2020 It's that time of the year again! This was a loooong year and i think i can speak for all of us if i say that music, movies and tv shows helped us a lot to get through this time. Let's look back at the best music, the most captivating tv shows and the most thrilling movies. For music, a few albums and singles from 2019 will count for this Best Of if the albums were released in November 2019 or if the singles peaked in December 2019 or later. In the movie category, movies that are from 2019 or were released even earlier in other countries will count if they were released in Germany this year. I watched hundred of movies this year, especially over streaming services, so i will only have a top 25 for movies that i watched in cinema and a top 30 for movies that i watched via streaming or DVD/Blu-Ray. And for tv shows, only episodes that were released in 2020 will count and i will have a top 30 this time, but there will be more tv shows than that. I use the app TV Time and always rate the episode, so i calculated the average rating for every tv show and some shows have the same rating, so they will share a position. As an example: The 16th place will include five tv shows. I am not sure when i will start and don't have a plan for how many positions i will reveal per day this time. It depends on how much time i have or how much time i want to spend per day, so it can change between five and ten positions per day. And i will probably wait for TV Shows until January OR until "Grey's Anatomy", "Station 19" and "The Flight Attendant" have aired the rest of their episodes this year, so i will have a correct rating. Same goes for movies, atleast the ones that i've watched per streaming. I doubt that cinemas will open again before the end of the year. Top 50 Artists Spoiler 1. Dua Lipa (638 Plays) 2. JGibson Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I am ready for what's to come on these lists.
Kevin2803 Posted December 3, 2020 Author Posted December 3, 2020 Top 50 Artists 50. CXLOE (130 Plays) Pop singer CXLOE released a couple of singles and her first EP in 2020 and delivered some real bops, but nothing that topped her singles from last year, in my opinion. Nevertheless, all her singles combined managed to spend 40 weeks in total on my weekly chart with "12 Steps" becoming her highest charting single (Peak: #30) in 2020. All that secured her another year in my Artists Top 50, even though she is down from last year, where she debuted at #32. 49. Alok (131 Plays) DJ Alok already got my attention when he released his single "I Don't Wanna Talk" with pop singer Amber Van Day in 2019, which peaked at #7 in January 2020. After that, he decided to release a cover of "Hear Me Tonight" and if i love one thing, it's when DJ/Producers turn "old" songs in dance bangers. The song managed to peak in my top 20 and was followed by a collab with the one and only Tove Lo called "Don't Say Goodbye", which is still charting at the moment. 48. Doja Cat (131 Plays) If i am completely honest, i kinda paid Doja Cat dust when she became this big newcomer and it was only the Nicki Minaj remix that made "Say So" chart on my countdown and even this version only peaked at #29. But the song that really made me a fan was the infectious bop "Boss Bitch" from the "Birds of Prey" Soundtrack, which became a number #1 hit. 47. Megan Thee Stallion (135 Plays) From one rap newcomer to another - Megan Thee Stallion is next on my list. And she is another artist that smashed with a song from the "Birds of Prey" Soundtrack. "Diamonds" is one of the biggest bops of 2020 and while i am not always the biggest fan of rap music and don't want to act like i know much about it, i will say that i think that Megan is the most talented out of all of them. She really outshined Cardi on "WAP" and her verses just hit harder, she has a better flow and a nice tone to her voice. 46. Becky G (136 Plays) Becky G had a BIG year in 2019 and was one of my top 5 artists. This year, she took a step back, but still released a dozen of features and some nice bops, like "They Ain't Ready". While i prefer Becky's spanish songs, she still managed to get the song in the top 10. The two follow-ups, "My Man" and "No Drama" barely managed to reach the top 70, though. Top 100 Singles 100. Jessie Ware – Spotlight (#17 | 10 Weeks) Fitting song title, because Jessie Ware really managed to return to the spotlight with her critically acclaimed comeback album "What's Your Pleasure?". With her unique voice and stellar production, she created a very infectious disco sound and her single "Spotlight" showcased that. It's her highest charting single of the year, peaking at number #17. 99. Lauv & Sofia Reyes – El Tejano (#24 | 11 Weeks) Lauv released his highly anticipated debut album this year, which combined all kind of genres. One of the standouts is "El Tejano", a latin-inspired bop that features Sofia Reyes, who is also someone who regulary pops up on my weekly countdown. The single peaked at #24 and spend eleven weeks on my chart. 98. Madison Beer – Good in Goodbye (#6 | 10 Weeks) Madison Beer proved once again that she is not just an Instagram influencer and should also be taken serious as an artist. Her debut album "Life Support" has yet to be released, but we got a taste of it in 2020. One in form of this catchy pop banger, which easily reached the top 10. 97. INNA - Not My Baby (#2 | 9 Weeks) While romanian singer INNA gets ready to release her new album "Heartbreaker" on friday, which will probably take over the year-end chart in 2021, let's look back on what she had to offer in 2020. "Not My Baby" is one of only four songs in the top 100 that spend less than ten weeks on my weekly countdown, but didn't made less of an impact. She delivered the sound that i love from her and managed to peak at #2, making it her highest charting single in 2020. 96. RAYE – Natalie Don't (#7 | 12 Weeks) RAYE really found her style and sound this year, which is best showcased in her single "Natalie Don't", her very own "Jolene". Infectious bop with a cute music video. The song spend twelve weeks in my weekly chart, peaking at #7. Top 100 Albums 100. Beyoncé – The Lion King: The Gift (#6 | 1 Week) Released in 2019, Beyoncé blessed her fans with a Deluxe Version of her very own soundtrack to the box office smash "The Lion King", which was accompanied by "Black is King", a visual album released on Disney+. I never really got into the album, but it got enough to earn a spot on the top 100. 99. Echosmith – Lonely Generation (#4 | 1 Week) Echosmith finally released a new album in the beginning of 2020 and while i really enjoyed some songs, i never really returned to it and gave it another listen, so it only peaked at #4 and was gone the next week. 98. Paloma Faith – Infinite Things (#9 | 1 Week) One of the albums released in November 2020, it's possible to see it again on next year's countdown, but i highly doubt it. While i love Paloma's voice and some songs are really cute, it's not an album that i will have on repeat. 97. Alicia Keys – ALICIA (#6 | 1 Week) "Authors of Forever" and "Love Looks Better" are the only two songs that i have in my playlist. The rest of the album was okay-ish, but again, nothing that i will go back to that often. 96. Meghan Trainor – A Very Trainor Christmas (#6 | 1 Week) I should boycott Meghan for talking bad about Britney Spears, especially after covering her christmas classic, but i try to separate the art from the artist and i am not a fan of cancel culture. And i have to admit that i really enjoyed this christmas album. It still has that classic sound, but also sounds modern. I love her and already have SITS on repeat, but a re-release of "Mood Ring" wasn't enough to dominate 2020. 18 hours ago, Blue Rose said: The Undoing coming to slay with a hammer Definitely 17 hours ago, Monky_2405 said: And so it begins Get ready for the slayage 17 hours ago, Orfeo said: can't wait 17 hours ago, mokitsu said: so many categories, i'll be def checking this out undoing and the invisible man whew Only the best of the best 17 hours ago, JGibson said: I am ready for what's to come on these lists. 15 hours ago, Delta said: Can't wait 9 hours ago, potent said: Checking for it! K$Ellie Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Spotlight deserved to be higher hope Baby and Selfish are higher for Madison Natalie Don't is very cute, I liked her album quite a bit too Becky, Megan and Doja
Kevin2803 Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 Top 50 Artists 45. Astrid S (136 Plays) After a dozen of EPs, Norwegian singer Astrid S finally blessed us with her debut album this year and it was a pretty decent one. Some people were disappointed, but i pretty much enjoyed it. "Marilyn Monroe" reached the top 15 on my weekly chart and "Dance Dance Dance" and "It's OK If You Forget Me" also charted within the top 100. 44. Zara Larsson (136 Plays) Swedish pop icon Zara Larsson has yet do release her third album, but we already got a first tate with "Love Me Land". She served MPG in the music video and hit number #1 on the weekly countdown, while the 2019 single "WOW" reached the top 5 with a new remix that featured "Work It" star Sabrina Carpenter. 43. INNA (137 Plays) Romanian singer INNA keeps feeding her fans new music for years now and never seems to really stop. She released a bunch of singles in 2020 with the standouts being "Not My Baby" and "VKTM", which both peaked within the top 3. And with her new album "Heartbreaker", which was released today, she already is on the way to dominate the year-end chart of 2021. 42. R3HAB (138 Plays) R3HAB is another artist that just keeps on releasing music and drops one single after another. Not every single one is amazing, but there were definitely a few bops in 2020, like his cover versions of "Creep" and "Smell Like Teen Spirit", his singles "Family Values", "Am I the Only One" and "One More Dance" with Nina Nesbitt, Astrid S and Alida and his collabs with Sofia Carson and Olivia Holt. 41. Rina Sawayama (139 Plays) One of the most promising new artists in 2020 was Rina Sawayama. Her single "XS" gave me early 2000 vibes and on her debut album "SAWAYAMA", she experimented with different music genres, which makes her one of the most exciting new pop artists. Top 100 Singles 95. Lennon Stella & Charlie Puth – Summer Feelings (#14 | 13 Weeks) "Nashville" star Lennon Stella had a really good year with her critically acclaimed debut album, which also scored her a song on the SCOOB soundtrack and a collab with pop singer Charlie Puth. "Summer Feelings" is, like the title says, a cute summer bop and their voices really compliment each other. 94. Tinashe & 6LACK – Touch & Go (#11 | 14 Weeks) In the last couple of years, Tinashe always switched between Pop and R&B, which is fine, but with "Songs for You", it feels like she finally found her sound. Her collab with 6LACK is one of the strongest songs on the project and managed to peak at number #11. 93. Dinah Jane – Missed a Spot (#17 | 14 Weeks) To be honest, i didn't have much hope for Dinah's solo career and while she still has yet to release a hit single, her material in 2020 was pretty strong and made me excited for more. 92. ZHU & Tinashe – Only (#13 | 12 Weeks) Another entry for Tinashe, but this time she is the feature on this infectious dance track. This is a pretty different kind of music style for Tinashe, but her strong vocals and an incredible production make this song almost hypnotizing. 91. The Aces – Kelly (#13 | 13 Weeks) I listened to their first album earlier this year and wasn't the biggest fan, to be honest, but their second album is full of bops, especially this catchy single that might be their poppiest song yet. Top 100 Albums 95. Liam Payne – LP1 (#3 | 1 Week) Not gonna lie, Liam could get it and some of his songs are bops, but this album didn't really work. It was so dull and boring and no song really stuck with me, so it's probably not that surprising that he only spend one week in the top 3. 94. Dagny – Strangers / Lovers (#6 | 1 Week) I really, REALLY want to get into Dagny's music, but somehow, it hasn't happened yet. It's not that i think her music is bad, but i kinda just quickly forget about her and her songs after i listened to them. 93. Megan Thee Stallion – Good News (#7 | 1 Week) Megan Thee Stallion is definitely already one of my favorite female rap artists. She just have a nice flow and i love the tone of her voice. Rap music isn't always my thing, but i wouldn't be surprised if we see this album again next year, considering that it was released in November and there are a few bops on here. 92. Disclosure – ENERGY (- | -) To be honest, the only song from this album that i have listened to is "Birthday" and the main reason for listening to it was Kehlani, who makes every song better. 91. Alice Chater – Aries – EP (- | -) "Pretty in Pink" was a cute bop, so i was a little disappointed when i listened to the EP and the rest of the songs were pretty different and boring in comparison. Otherwise, it probably would have charted higher on this countdown. ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted December 4, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 4, 2020 Yes that is the same Kito who did Bitter! She also produced this classic Sweet Talk! You should really listen to a few more songs from ENERGY. Watch Your Step is absolutely great, you'll probably like that! Love to see Rina on the artists list
