Welcome to the milestone TENTH season of one of ATRL's biggest games -- Let's Spoon!

This tournament is based on the iconic card game Spoons, as described here:

In the traditional game of Spoons, you have players sitting around a table. In the middle of the tale, spread out, are spoons -- there is one less spoon than there are players. Multiple decks of playing cards are shuffled and given to one of the players. This player deals 4 cards to each of the players, and then begins the round by going through the rest of the deck, one card at a time. This first player can choose to keep the card from the deck, thus discarding one of his other 4 cards. He can also choose to not take this card, and pass it quickly to the next person on the table, who in turn passes it to the next person if he doesn't want it, and so on, and so forth. The players do this as fast as possible, and it keeps going and going and going. The game's intensity picks up as the cards start flying. Basically, the goal of the game is to be the first person at the table to get 4 cards of the same kind. Four aces, four kings, four sevens, etc. However, there is a second element that makes this game so intense. When somebody gets 4 cards of the same kind, they grab one of the spoons in the middle of the table. As soon as this happens, all of the other players must IMMEDIATELY grab a spoon as well. There will be one person who is not quick enough, and this person will not get a spoon. Thus, they will be eliminated from the game. This continues, round after round, until only 2 remain; then, there is a final face off.

This card game will be converted into an ATRL game! The overall concept is simple. You will compete in various challenges, and the first person to complete the challenge will be guaranteed a spot in the next round. After this person wins the challenge, the first spoon will be posted in the thread.

Once you see the "First Spoon" in the thread, all of the other players must post the word "spoon" in the thread. Pictures or other creative representations of the word "spoon" are acceptable, as well. Posting your spoon now becomes the only way to save yourself and advance to the next round. Similar to musical chairs, there will be one less "spoon" than there are players in the round, and the last player remaining without a "spoon" will be eliminated. If more than one player does not post "spoon" before the next challenge, all of them will be eliminated, or there will be a vote from the contestant who won the challenge.

This game will require you to be an active player! If you are not active, there is a good chance that you will be eliminated early. Since we are in quarantine, I am going to be more open to doing rotating challenge times this season! The rounds will thus be held at times that are convenient for different time zones on different days. However, as another note, I will not be doing break days this season... since we are all under lockdown there should be no need x

The challenges will be LIVE. Remember, you want to be the first person to complete the challenge. You will also want to be aware of what is happening in the thread during the challenge period, because it could become a "spoon" war very quickly. Players who are a little slower/in a bad time zone will have until the next challenge (24 hours later) to post in the thread. However, there is a high possibility that all the spoons will be taken within an hour or two of the challenge being posted, especially after the first few rounds.

Finally, this season's twist will be announced at the end of sign-ups!

1. Below is the policy regarding this game and bans from ATRL. Please try not to get banned tysm:

Quote

- If a competitor is banned between rounds, the next round will be a regular round, with the same number of eliminations as it was previously planned to have.

- If the competitor believes that he/she will win an appeal, he/she has until one hour before the scheduled challenge time to get the ban reversed. Otherwise, he/she will remain eliminated.

- If multiple competitors are banned between rounds, the next round is to have one fewer elimination than it was planned to have for every competitor that is banned after the first one.

- If this results in a non-elimination round, the round will either be held with an advantage for the winner, or it will be canceled and the regular schedule will resume the next day.

Example 1: alexanderao is banned in between Round 9 and Round 10. Round 10 was originally planned to be a double elimination round. It will still be a double elimination round.

Example 2: shelven and Legend E are banned between Round 6 and Round 7. Round 7 was originally planned to be a double elimination round. Now, it will be a single elimination round.

Example 3: GotSkill and Marvin are banned between Round 14 and Round 15. Round 15 was originally planned to be a single elimination round. Now, it will either be a non-elimination round with an advantage for the winner or moved back to the next day (Element's choice).

Example 4: Due to Halloween, Witch_Privilege, gagacasanova, and Vapour are all banned between Round 8 and Round 9. Round 9 was originally planned to be a double elimination round. Now, it will either be a non-elimination round with an advantage for the winner or moved back to the next day (Element's choice).

2. If a challenge is not posted within 10 minutes of the scheduled time, Element has likely had an issue arise that requires him to be away from ATRL. Please remain in the thread for these 10 minutes for the challenge post. If the challenge is not posted within 10 minutes, Element will make an announcement regarding the postponement and rescheduling of the challenge.

3. Contestants are not allowed to post fake first spoons in order to create paranoia and confusion. If a contestant purposefully trolls like this, they will receive a warning and disadvantage the first time, and will be removed from the game the second time.

4. If any issues regarding the procedure of the game arise, contestants are to deal with them directly with Element, recognizing the ATRL moderators' previously set standard that the host of a game has ultimate authority regarding the progress of said autonomous game. We will work towards a solution and compromise for such issues without unnecessary outside intervention.

TWISTS

This season, we will be paying homage to the history of Let's Spoon. Each day will feature a different blast from the past! The twist for each round will correspond to the number of the original season that the twist was from. For example, the twist from season 2 would take place in rounds 2, 12, 22, etc. this season. The twist from season 4 would take place in rounds 4, 14, 24, etc. this season.

Since we are beginning daily challenges on April 1st, the date/round/original twist season should all align as the same number! Please read below for info on each of the twists you will see rotating throughout Let's Spoon X -- these will end at a certain point in the game!

Let's Spoon premiered in the summer of 2014 when I was a relatively new ATRLer! (yes, I'm ancient now). I wasn't sure how this game would be received but was very excited when it turned into a fun experience for the players and myself! The original winner of Let's Spoon, @dimitrius, left ATRL shortly after his victory over @Jackson. He remains the only person in Let's Spoon history with a 1.0 placement average!

As I was just figuring out the basic structure of Let's Spoon in season one, there will similarly be no twists during rounds ending in "1" this season.

A few months after season one, Let's Spoon was back for another eventful season! @Sebas dominated many challenges and took the title over @Speezy this time around... and who could forget the many messy moments provided by Qatari Monster?

This season, the first major Let's Spoon twist was introduced, the Secret Spoon of Safety! Thus, in rounds ending with "2" this season, the Secret Spoon of Safety will be up for grabs. This functions as an immunity that you can use at any time later in the season!

During the winter of 2015, another new twist took over Let's Spoon: The Freeze. Every round, I put the remaining contestants into an online randomizer. The person who came up in the #1 spot in the randomizer was not allowed to participate in the challenge at all. They were "frozen" and had to wait until the spoon grabbing begins in order to save themselves.

This season, for all rounds ending in "3", The Freeze will be back and will randomly block some of you from participating in that round's challenge.

In the end, @Staryu survived the winter wonderland and defeated @Remmy in undoubtably the most shocking Spoon finale to date!

Following his shocking defeat in season three, @Remmy claimed victory over @Dylan' in one of my personal favorite seasons. Season 4 introduced The Poisoned Spoon, which absolutely heightened the risk and luck involved in this game. Each round, one of the "safe spoons" was actually "poisoned". The person who landed in this poisoned spot would earn a strike, and if they accumulated three across the season, they would be auto-eliminated.

This season, the Poisoned Spoon will be back in a slightly different format. Every round that ends in "4" will have multiple poisoned spoons, determined randomly before the round. The contestants who land in these poisoned spots will be put in jeopardy during the next round (that ends in "5"). They must complete the challenge quickly to survive -- the last person to complete this challenge will be eliminated from the entire game. This sudden death competition will run parallel to the main round, so they must balance the challenge with grabbing their spoon.

Season five was our largest season, with 50 players! Newcomer @alexanderao burst onto the scene, winning this season over @Superiore and becoming the keeper of the Stats Spreadsheet over the following seasons.

There was a bit more duplicity involved in season five, with the introduction of The Scarlet Spoon. The winner of the challenge would get to sabotage someone in the subsequent round. That "victim" would have to win the next challenge to secure their safety. If they did not win, they had to wait until only a few spoons remained. This season, the winner of rounds ending in "5" will receive a Scarlet Spoon that they can use later in the competition against someone else.

By far the most controversial season of Let's Spoon, culminating in a week long shutdown of the thread. We made it back open though!! In the end, @Legend E dominated and snatched the title over two-time finalist @Jackson.

The twist that contributed to this season's messiness was the ever-iconic Let's Spoon Auction. Contestants were given a virtual dollar amount to "bid" on items before each round. The items could be positive, negative, or neutral.

This season, every round ending in "6" will begin with an auction for between 15-30 minutes, where you will all be given the opportunity to buy a prize. More details will be revealed once we get there.

The final season on OldTRL... Let's Spoon 7 featured two new finalists, @shelven and @Henry, who had pretty amazing challenge skills. After a hard fought battle, it was shelven who ended up taking home the gold.

As season seven occurred during the 2016 Summer Olympics, we had our own "Olympics" twist. Rounds ending in "7" this season will thus revisit the Let's Spoon Olympics. The top performers in these challenges will accumulate points depending on how quickly they complete the challenge. Towards the end of the season, those with the most points will earn an advantage.

After a bit of a hiatus, Let's Spoon returned to New ATRL in March 2018 with a "back to basics" format. There were no twists or special items along the way, and that will be true of the rounds ending in "8" this season. They will be standard rounds.

Season 8 was a pretty fun one, ending with an epic battle of former winners that saw @shelven become the first two-time champion, defeating @alexanderao in a nail-biting finale. A true All Stars finish!

The most recent season of Let's Spoon ended in an incredible battle between @Psycho and @Touch It, with the former taking the crown. And of course underdog @thecptz captured the hearts of the world along the way!

Rounds ending in "9" will revisit the main twist from this season, the Sink or Swim Immunity. Immunity will be up for grabs at 9 AM EDT on the day of the "9" round. In order to earn immunity, you must post the below IMMUNITY SPOON IMAGE in the thread at 9 AM EDT. I will not accept anything besides this image to earn immunity in the morning. The first time, there will be nine immunities up for grabs at 9 AM EDT. The first nine people to post the image will win immunity from the round that night. The number of morning immunities will decrease as the season progresses. There will be some risk involved. The tenth person to post the image (as it appears in order on Element's screen) will NOT earn immunity. They will not be able to compete in the challenge, and as their penalty, they will have to wait until only three spoons remain in the regular round to secure their spot. The choice is yours... when you take the risk, will you sink or swim?
