Cos i still had to pick someone and it was an easy 'reason' to :emofish:

Like last season, I'm going to try to give explanations along with my votes because one of the things I love about this game as a long-time observer and one-time player is how the contestants learn and grow throughout the season, and I believe the only way that can happen is if people know why their entry is considered strong or weak. I also do it to avoid being hypocritical since I personally like receiving explanations when people like or dislike something I write, so if in return, I could get even just a few words of an explanation if you choose to off me at any point in the season, I would really appreciate that.

OFF:

Melanie Martinez: I feel bad giving you an off vote since it seems as though you just didn't have a full understanding of the game and how important the essay part is, but it wouldn't be fair to put someone else in this place since your entry was obviously the least detailed out of everybody's :emofish:  But I'm hoping this is a non-elimination round (since there's only 14 contestants now instead of 15) so that you're able to hopefully improve next round now that you have a better idea of what everybody else's entries are like.

Samantha Jade: While I do acknowledge that knowing a bit about an artist's history can sometimes be important in understanding their albums/songs, I think you spent too much of your essay giving us a summary of Samantha's entire career, and therefore you weren't detailed enough in your description of the album as a whole or why the song is a good representation. "The album is positive and the song represents that by being a positive song" is a bit too general of a point for it to make up your entire explanation, so I wish you had used up some of that career summary space to flesh out that point more instead.

Asking Alexandria: I actually think your entry started off quite strong, but you ended up losing a bit of focus in terms of what the objective of this round was. After that first paragraph, you mostly stopped explaining how your song shapes your album and went on instead to just talk about how the song/album relates to you and why you like them so much. Like Alena, I believe this is your first season and thus it's understandable that you'll face a bit of a learning curve, so for future rounds I recommend staying more focused throughout your whole essay.

SAVE:

Robyn: Well I can't say I'm surprised by the strength of this entry given how detailed you were as a judge last season! Anyways, you absolutely nailed every aspect of this challenge - you gave us a great in-depth preview of your album as a whole and you tied your song to the album with multiple strong, insightful points. Great job!

Halsey: What I loved about your entry wasn't just the points you made, but how you made them. Your essay had a story-like structure to it, which worked extremely well for this challenge since it really helped convince me why your chosen song is an integral part of the "story" of your album. You really managed to fit a lot in just 200 words, but the way you wrote it ensured that no point felt underdeveloped nor did the entry feel overstuffed.

Some additional comments I wanted to make:

  • Hillary Duff: While I didn't off you because I thought that your explanation felt pretty fleshed out despite how short it was, in the future I would personally recommend making your essay be closer to the word limit, since not doing so puts you at a disadvantage since everybody else is using more words to go into more detail about their choice.
  • Wanted to give an "honourable mention" to Adele - I really liked your entry, and I badly wish that this was a "Save 3" round so I could save you too, but I thought that the two entries I saved were both just slightly stronger.

@shelven yea i did not know :deadbanana2: i mean pedro even told me to go deeper but i didnt really think that would be matter, i thought this was more about picking the right song and not writing stuff about a song like u wrote them urself :emofish: #isuckatreadinginstructions

Well, since prezli quits, I do think there shouldn't be an eliminated too.

But we still have to do this for overall ranking I guess.

Off:
Melanie Martinez - The song is good, but, as said before, the written aspect is what really put you here
Asking Alexandria - The song was interesting. When I REALLY listened to the lyrics it got better and I REALLY do see your point in your write up, but it was a bit too...all over the place. (I know this cuz im horrible about doing this too and REALLY have to like edit mine like 20 times before I send)
Samantha Jade - It was hard to choose this third spot, because I was torn between 3 of you. I think for me, your write up with nice but too vague. The song was also the weaker choice (IMO) between the songs I was torn betwee,

Addition notes:
Just throwing these out there, as Dangerous Woman and Glory were 2 of my top albums last year, I was PRETTY close to voting them off   I wouldnt say I Dont Care fully captures the album as a whole, but your write up was the better of the others. Unlike other Britney stans, I actually REALLY love "Private Show", but with that being said, I dont think it was the song to choose for this round. Again I LOVE the song, but this song has the most distinct sound and really seperates it from the album (again IMO)

Are you gonna finish your vote Alena?

Will vote sometime tonight

I have decided that I am just not going to vote on Melanie because I feel like people are too strict on him/her. I lowkey like it since it goes straight to the point for me. However, I'm hoping @Alena has him/her lesson now that paragraph-form in this competition is crucial.

OFF:

1. Ariana Grande: When I think of this round, never in my life I would have thought 'I Don't Care' would be the ideal one. And to me, no matter how hard people convince, the song choice is just not right. Your paragraph is well-written, but the song choice is not my cup of tea.

2. Asking Alexandra: There are rounds that you can go with your personal flashback, however, definitely not this one. You start off the paragraph nice and well, but when it comes to the latter part, it's not on track and a bit off-topic. However, keep up with the good part, you just need more experiences with this.

3. Britney Spears: I like this album, so I have some higher expectations for it. I wish you could've gone into more details about how it form the material. Also, from my perspective, I would not go with a song that I don't like (even if how much it fits the round, people just can't feel your passion, and that matters when it comes to writing). My advice to you would be, pick a song that you like it first, then go with the flow.

SAVE:

1. Kelly Clarkson: This is one of the surprising entries this round for me. I never thought how perfectly this song forms the whole album. Thank you for reminding me about this great track of Kelly.

2. Samantha Jade: Contrary to what people say about this entry, I like how her past was added in the entry. Since I don't know much about her earlier, this pretty much sums up everything I need, and that's all I want this round.

Melanie Martinez - I don't feel MM should go this round for the sole fact that Alena didn't understand the assignment. And tbh, ha short & sweet explanation is better than some of the more detailed explanations...

Halsey - I appreciate the imagery you provided in your explanation.

OFF

Hilary Duff - I believe the explanation is too vague.

Adele - The issue with this entry is that it's more focused on the details of the song "Hello", rather than why "Hello" is the best representation of 25.

The Weeknd - I get what you were trying to go for in your entry but I think Secrets is such a wrong choice for the shape of Starboy. The title track, Rockin', Ordinary Life and even a few others would've much better suited this round.

But I explain how each of the things mentioned are related to the other songs in the album already? And how it even fits the album name, 25?.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. :)

I didn't feel you justified it as well as the other entries.

Rockin is probably song I would consider the least to describe Starboy as a whole. It has the 80s vibe going but it has some edm undertones to it . Lonely Night and Starboy was other options tbh.

Plus I'll save Rockin. It might pull through for next round

Off - [Sorry, nothing personal but giving my honest rates..]

Asking Alexandria - I got lost when I first read but understood it the second time through. I feel like the amount of lyrics put in could've been simplified and you could've got your point across. I wished you talked about the album a bit more

Also to me the personal part was not needed.

Ariana Grande - I screamed at the last sentence at the end. Well I think Dangerous Woman could replace IDC(if you even care to read this :skull: ).

I think the reasoning of trying to get rid of the Nickolodean image was terrible tbh.

Melanie Martinez - I know you probably didn't know about this game completely but :jonny: just elaborate in some details about the song and the album.

Save

Kelly Clarkson - This is a great example of préalbum trials and tribulations compared to Samantha Jade entry. They were similar but this flowed smoothly

Sia - Personally I love when people reference back one or two tracks in a write up so I won't have to preview each song on iTunes to get a feel for their album. Anyways I think you hit every nail that was possibly available. You got the theme, some Artist history and you mentioned lyrics but they weren't there ...(but the song is popular enough so :gaycat2: )
