You’re in luck for the first one - somehow Blonde and Endless we’re not rated in This WAS 2016. Maybe we could do a part two with The Life of Pablo and some others?

Both Blonde and The Life Of Pablo was included in the This Was 2016 part 2 rate that I hosted back in 2017. Endless was not touched however.

10 singles per act - that's how you narrow it down!

And if you're going to include Sylvester, give a look to Dan Hartman and Patrick Hernandez!

Ok will do my research and narrow down!  Also @Tom Vercetti send me names!

Hmm. I'm unsure about any group or band including men being in a MAKES THE WOMAN rate, so most of your list would be out! But Amy and Erykah are great picks; just find those to go with them? [FYC: Holly Valance]

I like this format of 3/4 albums that have never been rated alongside 1/2 that have; with that in mind, I present some other lineups of the aughts that might work! (*denotes the albums that have been rated before that will be allowed to be re-rated in a new context!)

2002 MAKES THE WOMAN

Amerie

Ashanti

Avril Lavigne

Missy Elliott

Norah Jones

2004 MAKES THE WOMAN

Annie

Anastascia

Ciara

Janet *

Loretta Lynn

2005 MAKES THE WOMAN

Anohni

Fiona Apple

Mary J Blige *

Rachel Stevens

Robyn

2006 MAKES THE WOMAN

Corinne Bailey-Rae

Joanna Newsom (ATRL listening to YS... oh yes, oh yes)

Neko Case OR Cat Power

1 of ANY of the major pop releases that have been previously rated

1 of the 2 groundbreaking UK releases from women who worked with Mark Ronson (they've been rated too!)

2007 MAKES THE WOMAN

Britney Spears * (because you can't mention 2007 without Blackout)

Feist

M.I.A.

Miranda Lambert

Roisin Murphy

2017 MAKES THE WOMAN

Katy

Kesha

Lana

Pink

Taylor

Any of these interest you? Or anyone else?

Just passing by but I remember (and I just double checked this lol) there was a This Was 2017 Pop Rate with Katy, Kesha, and Taylor in it :rip:

Also @MP2K when are we starting up New Wave of R&B Pt. III? You already ran the list by me like a month ago nn :thing:

Was there ever a top female albums of all time song rate? It would be cool to see ATRL's opinion on albums like Horses, Tapestry, Dusty in Memphis, I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, Hounds of Love or Pearl.

What year did we last finish for the R&B #1s? @Ace Reject

Edit - Nevermind, so we'd start with 1993

I know all the quotes to this are just "this album was also used before"... so here's another LMFAO - Fiona's Extraordinary Machine was definitely used before, I THINK in This Was 2005 (it was in the same rate as Twin Cinema and Illinois I recall that).

Roisin's Overpowered was also used in This Was Pop 2007 (the only rate I've hosted and probably only one I ever will xo). Could be cute to have her 2005 album Ruby Blue (her best album xo) used in a rate at some point? Even if Overpowered is always "the" Roisin album.

Nnnnn should have just kept my big mouth shut.

What if you reuse Avril, who fits well with Norah and Ashanti as the breakout acts of the year in different genres, then keep Album of the Year nominee Missy and add blockbuster seller Shania instead of Amerie?

Or the Chicks for some country representation!

The Chicks as the fifth works! Hello AOTY nominee! Should have won!

And, without further ado, here's the list for 2019

2019 MAKES The Woman

Camila Cabello

Caroline Polachek

Maren Morris

Summer Walker

Tinashe

Everyone pleased?

also this guy too?  Much to think about...

Having a rethink

Center it on the acts that the 80s CREATED. That means ditching Sylvester, Patrick, Dan... and yes, the B-52s.

I like the idea of honing in on the Brits! They were the only ones who were allowed to be as gay as they were (even if they weren't allowed to be fully gay!)

5 singles for the small acts (like MARILYN) and 10 singles for the big ones (PSB, Culture Club, Erasure, etc.)

Also, beloved - how did you just skip past FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD?!?!?

I would love to see a straight version of the 80s British scene too! Human League, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division/New Order, Smiths, Cure, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie Sioux... just nothing but HITS and CLASSICS.

Actually start that one first nnn. Leave the gay one for June - Pride Month!

I love this.  But we HAVE to give tens to every human league song! Does it matter that some of these weren’t created by the 80s? :eli:

Well, I mean, you'd have to put stuff like Never Tear Us Apart (1979) and the 90s hits that other bands had (Enjoy The Silence, Regret) in!

So, eight artists - ten singles each. If I may:

Joy Division/New Order (do them as one act)

The Cure

The Smiths

The Human League

Duran Duran (for the poppers)

Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees

Depeche Mode

Echo and the Bunnymen

Smells like a HIT to me. But what do I know?

should i do what you did in the 90s uog last rate where you added 1-2 song from etc girls - im thinking flock of seagulls/animotion/blankmage/prefab sprout/xtc?  the last two aren't really aesthetically cohesive with the rate but should be mentioned!
