Episode 2: "Budding New Talent"

 

 

Calling all demo songwriters! For your next song, we'd like you to take inspiration from something as diverse in beauty as all of your writing styles, and as magnificent as all of the shiny Platinum Plaques that line our halls… flowers! One of our social media bloggers has compiled a list of 41 different and beautifully unique flowers, each with a surprising meaning. Your task is to write a new original song inspired by one of these flowers and their associated meaning. Your inspiration can be as loose or as abstract or as strong as you wish, but it must be present. Anyone can select any flower, as there are no sign-ups or restrictions as to who can do what, but it must be on the provided list.

 

Star Challenges

✪ Reference both physical characteristics and associated meanings of your flower within your song.

✪ Don't include your flower's name within your song, but still make a strong enough connection to it.

 

Additionally, as everybody was recruited during our last search for talent, sign-ups are still open! If you didn't submit in Episode 1 for whatever reason, you may still submit for Episode 2. However, there will have to be some cuts this time, so keep that in mind when submitting your songs. For those submitting, please include which flower you chose and any star challenges you attempted in addition to the lyrics of your song.

So I'm looking through the slides and this song idea hits me as soon as I see a certain flower, now I just got to make sure it's not generic, just organically put together and more intensely emotional

Welcome back, songwriters. Your first offerings were very successful, but now the general public are growing tired of them and are expecting new material from our artists. We're no longer aiming for just quick little singles, but songs which are going to have a long-lasting impact and do wonders for these artists' careers.

 

When Episode 2 is posted (which is coming within the hour) you'll notice a new challenge element has been introduced. Platinum Hit is currently in its twelfth incarnation, and we realise there are many different types of players with varying degrees of experience when it comes to this tournament. To keep it fun and fresh, yet challenging for seasoned players without being too ambitious for new players, we've introduced "Star Challenges". These are optional elements you may choose to take on in addition to the challenge outline. There will be two for most challenges, and you may choose to challenge yourself with either one, both or neither. It's completely up to you! There will not be a rigid score boost for those who choose to undertake more challenges, but ambition will definitely be taken into account when scoring. However, if you think a particular star challenge is going to detract from your song, it may be wiser not to incorporate it.

Head on over to the Episode Recap on page 1 of the thread below the OP, now updated with all relevant reviews and charts from Episode 1.

Loving the support for this challenge so far.  Inspiration-based challenges are always fun and I think this should make for some fantastic entries! There's plenty to draw from on that list and you could take any one of the flowers and their meanings in a plethora of directions. Make sure to be original, but make sure that connection is still there. Good luck!

OMG I just realised my hit song Dancing With The Daffodils inspired by William Wordsworth's hit poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud would have ACED this challenge.   let me not do Daffodils then
