What I meant by that was Slide has gotten old for me so I don't even really play the song anymore Whenever I play Funk Wav, I just start from Cash Out. 13 hours ago, Kiss It Better said: Green Light yes talent PND's voice on Cash Out is hot 7 hours ago, Love Drought said: Unravel Me and Nothing Hurts But The Cold are such beautiful songs Hit The Ceiling and Gave Your Love Away are great bops Performance by The xx is not my favourite but it's definitely a great track Cash Out is low-key underrated, funk-HipHop fusion masterpiece and Joey Bada$$ deserves more recognition I was surprised by how well Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2 worked I haven't listened to it in a while though SiR's oh na na reminds me of late 90's smooth R&B by D'Angelo. I didn't know he was signed to TDE Two Wildly Different Perspectives is also one of my favourites on Pure Comedy, I actually thought it could get nominated for SOTY at the Grammys I've been bopping all year to Drink Dat Syd has been killing it recently, she's really creating her own path and Bad Dream/No Looking Back is such a great example of Minimalistic R&B done right. Her debut and Almost Never Home is definitely better than Matt and Steve's work. I think Steve has a lot of potential too but he's still young so there's more room for him to grow and perfect his craft. I'm still hoping for a new Internet album though, the anticipation is killing me Unravel Me was an instant highlight and I'm surprised I didn't see more people talking about that track. I wanted to give Performance some love since I saw most people putting Say Something Loving, I Dare You, or even Dangerous (all great songs btw) on their lists. FJM getting a Grammy nod outside of the Rock/Alt categories is a stretch lmao but it would more deserved than any of the other noms we do have. And I'm telling you, Drink Dat has been on rotation ever since the album dropped And I can't agree more with Syd. Matt's album seemed like music that other artists did better (see: Thundercat) while Steve's was rough around the edges. I think now that they all released solo music, they'll come around to putting out a new album next yea. Fingers crossed. 2 hours ago, Wicked said: FJM, Thundercat YAS. Okay I'm going to listen to this Jhene song (along with the others), if this Jhene track makes me fall asleep it's on you. nn; I'm not going to lie and say she sings in any other note than she normally does but I think her vocals go well with the trippy production and I think there's enough variation in the production to keep you awake 1 hour ago, jose168 said: Green Light and Late Night Radio Love the Lion Babe nod as well, hope she really breaks out at some point Both some good ass bops (especially the latter). ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 29, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 29, 2017 Performance TWDP is probably my least favourite song on PC I feel like FJM's got so into this sarcastic, dry character that anything serious like TWDP comes off as insincere (and then it's followed by the Memo which is like... c'mon)
ultraviolence.xx Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 is it bad that performance is one of my least faves on ISY? the lyrics just feel...basic to me queen sabrina claudio jazminé king SOHN’s good solo song FJM LUV reminds me i need to check out the nicki remix damn she’s been hopping on EVERYTHING lately

I really felt the distress in Romy' voice. Nicki really came through on the remix so I'd recommend it. 6 hours ago, TayRianaPH said: Stan for Ari's TBY, Queen! Pink Matter Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 (edited) Top 100 Singles Singles 30-16 30) Gabriel Garzon-Montano|Crawl Spanish Zaddy Crawl, and its parent album, has been one of my favorite tunes to come back to throughout the year. I love the bouncy feel the song provides, courtesy of the guitar strumming done throughout the song. The song gives me a slight D'Angelo vibe and his vocals (one of the most interesting I've listened to this year) for some reason remind me of Anderson .Paak. Random, but there's a collaboration I'd certainly like to see. 29) dvsn|Don't Choose This song is certainly the most unconventional track on dvsn's sophomore album, and the most interesting single they've put out thus far. I appreciate it because in the context of the album, it's very unique in production and song structure. Their album strays away from the alt. R&B formula on their debut for a more contemporary R&B setting so I'm glad I have Don't Choose for when I need something different. The choppy vocals and the starry production in the intro, plus the hook and the vocal/voice mod. in the hook are my favorite moments on the song. 28) Rina Sawayama|Tunnel Vision (feat. Shamir) All aboard the hype train! Rina is certainly one of the most interesting finds of 2017 and she proves it by straddling the line between Pop and R&B with her debut mini-album. Tunnel Vision, Rina tackles the issues with living and maintaining relationships in the age of social media with some assistance from Shamir. I feel there's a cool juxtaposition in the closeness between the two on the track while their singing about being unable to communicate well with others due to social media. The production has this lullaby melody that's very sweet and Shamir kinda snapped during the bridge. His peak tbh. 27) Loreen|'71 Charger A completely random find that I stumbled upon late in the year but one that I'm so happy to have checked out. '71 Charger is Pop song with slight electronic and ambient elements in the production that make it incredibly addicting. '71 Charger is a song where Loreen, or this individual, wants nothing to do with this other person and what they are saying. Are they being manipulative? Maybe. Toxic? Probably. The fact of the matter is, Loreen would rather kill herself than listen to another word comes out of the other persons mouth. While I love the production, her vocals are the highlight of the song for me. 26) Clap! Clap!|Ode to the Pleiades There hasn't been much electronic music that stood out for me this year because the majority that I've listened to felt very samey/one-note/boring/etc. Then came along CC. A Thousand Skies made for one of the most exciting listens of the year and Ode to the Pleiades was the stand out track on the album for me. This six-minute long epic takes you on a journey into soundscapes that includes the use of African/tribal elements and string and drum instruments, that then transitions into one of the most dissonant and elegant piano pieces I've heard all year. Overall, an incredibly dynamic song! 25) Lana Del Rey|Love ahh my ****ing fave Being honest, this kind of song isn't something that I expected from her. She has sang some of her songs in a more general manner so that it relates to more people in the past (see: Terrence Loves You) but never quite like this. On Love, there seems to be a sense of hopefulness, which is never a feeling that I've really discerned from her music. Love is about realizing that despite the adversities life throws at us, being in love, or focusing on love in general will help you work through those problems. Moreover, Love works as a way of describing the change that has occurred in Lana. She doesn't care if she's not enough for the world or the future, because she's finally happy A simple song with a great message. It made me very excited for Lust For Life and it makes me excited for what she has in store in the future. 24) Harry Styles|Sign of the Times The last ex-1D member on my list, I must say I'm genuinely impressed. I kinda expected Harry to go down this route but I never thought he would drop a song as good as this. The lead single for Harry's self-titled debut album, Sign of the Times is a pop-rock track that draws inspiration from rock music from the '70s. The song is bombastic and grand. The instrumentation is the highlight and the lyrics show off Harry's newfound maturity (or maturity he already developed and is now bringing to the surface). A tad "real-music'd" but a wonderful song nonetheless. 23) St. Vincent|Los Ageless Not much to say except this song left my wig crooked after the first listen. Los Ageless is a song with some of the most explosive production I've heard all year, bizarre and unusual vocals that only Annie could pull off, and lyrics about dealing with a toxic relationship and the consequences that come with it to boot. 22) Rose Elinor Dougall|All At Once Another pop bop to get into. Don't really have much else to comment on except this has been my mess for the past couple of months. Just gets me going every time. The beat goes off and I love the synths too. 21) SZA|Love Galore (feat. Travis Scott) It's been 84 years 3 years since Siz came through with another project and I was initially let down by Drew Barrymore (I came around to it eventually hihi). Then she dropped Love Galore months later and had me hooked with those lovely sing. A bit of a different style compared to S and Z, Love Galore has elements of trap in the production (I love how bubbly it gets). My favorite part is definitely the transition into the outro and the bubbly effect/trap production is most apparent here. Travis' feature was a nice touch. 20) Kendrick Lamar|HUMBLE. An unexpected knock from Kung Fu Kenny. A banger filled with tons of quotables, HUMBLE. acted as the lead single for Kendrick's DAMN. in which he took on a more commercial style to address topics like wickedness and weakness, HUMBLE. referencing the former. Lyrically, the song isn't that out of the ordinary for Kendrick, but this style of production is definitely something I didn't expect him to be rapping over. That being said, this style is one that he certainly benefited from, as it became his first #1 hit, and also elevated him to higher status commercially. 19) LCD Soundsystem|american dream I don't know how else to comment on this besides talking about the way in which it makes me feel (which I suppose is what I've already been doing nn). Whenever I listen to this (and from the moment I first did actually), I've been left feeling like I'm floating in mid-air. It's mesmerizing, hypnotic, and oddly captivating. Normally, synth based music is bouncy and light and gives me a sense of euphoria, but there's a weird somber feeling in this case. american dream is a gorgeous song that is great at sucking me into the world James Murphy designed and then spitting me back out, leaving me with a sense of solemnity. 18) King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard|Billabong Valley I think the first line of the song indicates how I feel about this one: Outlaws on the run/faster than a stolen gun This song makes me feel like I'm in some old Western movie, running from the law. The song gives off this rough, seedy vibe. I love how certain words are enunciated to give them extra oomph and the instrumentation is my favorite part, the flute especially. 17) Vic Mensa|OMG (feat. Pusha T and Pharrell Williams) Vic may be a jack-of-all-trades that can't figure out what path he wants to take musically and put out some weak ass material this year, but he sure knows how to rap. OMG is the perfect title for this because it not only contains some of Vic's best rapping, it contains a hard guest feature from Pusha T and one of the best beats Pharrell has released in recent memory. Just a perfect rap song. 16) BROCKHAMPTON|JUNKY The way I whew'd after hearing Kevin's verse . I felt that of all the music they released this year (all of which ranged from good to great), this song in particular deserved to be recognized the most because it's one of the most dynamic songs they released, addresses many different social topics (homophobia, drug abuse, and sexism to name a few), and has some of my favorite lines from the Saturation series. Every moment on this song was great from the very beginning to the very end. Edited December 30, 2017 by Pink Matter
