Welcome to Pink Matter's 2017 Best Of

 

I'm so excited to finally get this thread up and running. I'm sure you all know how this goes. I'll be doing a ranking of some of my favorite songs and albums that were released this year (between 1/1/17 and 11/30/17). 

 

I'll be posting my top 100 songs, top 15 videos (with 5 HMs), "top 10" EPs, and finally my top 50 albums (with 30 HMs). I will also be doing a small recap of my top 10 albums and songs from 2016 to start things off.

 

I quite enjoyed the music that was released this year. I thought this was a great year with lots of solid finds. Digging deeper past mainstream music and checking more indie acts allowed me to get more out of 2017 than I did in previous years. That being said, looking back on 2017, I don't believe there was one album that stood out from the rest of the pack as THE best album or song of the year. My top 5/10 for both lists are pretty interchangeable, which in my opinion shows there's been high quality music across the board. So I suppose it all works out  

 

Goals for this Best Of:

-Expose users to new music they may not have heard of.

-Get users to reconsider their thoughts on albums/songs they didn't enjoy beforehand.

-Outdo my previous Best Of in terms of content (as well as popularity ).

-Highlight what I felt was good across various genres.

A cute lil electropop song. The song by itself is alright, but the video truly brings it to life and makes it more enjoyable to listen to.

 

99) Goldfrapp|Systemagic

 

 

Being my first introduction (well Anymore technically was), I didn't know what to expect. But this track was one of the nicer synthpop songs I got the chance to listen to this year. Great production on here.

 

98) Paramore|Fake Happy

 

 

An overall solid track. I didn't spend a lot of time with this album but this was highlight. Love the production change part way into the song and really like how Hayley shows the emotional/sad feeling of being "fake happy".

 

97) Shy Girls|Say You Will

 

 

A smooth alt-R&B track. Nice production and I think the vocals match well with it too.

 

96) DJ Khaled|Wild Thoughts (feat. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller)

 

 

A cute Maria Maria rehash. I know most people hate it, but I actually love it because of the sample. Rihanna also is the best part of the song so there's that.

95) Selena Gomez|Fetish (feat. Gucci Mane)

 

 

I don't use Selena much but this was one of my guilty pleasures this year. A nice lil urban pop bop with a surprise Gucci Mane feature. Poor Bad Liar.

 

94) Washed Out|Get Lost

 

 

A vibe. This song came out at the right time and was one of my go to summer songs. Nothing like a nice standard chillwave track.

 

93) Cigarettes After Sex|Apocalypse

 

 

Lowkey, I thought the singer was a girl when I first played this. A very dreamy and calming dream pop tune.

 

92) The National|The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness

 

 

Love the electronic undertones in the production. A great song that's also lyrically relevant as well.

 

91) Laura Marling|Wild Fire

 

 

I don't normally enjoy folk/country-ish tunes but this was one of my favorite singles earlier in the year. I haven't played it that often since the album dropped but it's a solid tune nonetheless.
