It gives them more power when negociating with record labels. Record labels can communicate on how their artists perform chart-wise to increase their revenues.

That Spotify average takes both paid and free streams into account.

I guess they want their ad-supported streams and their subscriber-supported streams to be weighted the same.

Spotify knows that any chart without their numbers will be irrelevant.

His problem is that his streaming is pretty weak so as the market shrinks his debuts will become weaker and weaker even accounting for SPS as he can't make up for lost pure sales with streaming.
