Tom Vercetti Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I like how diverse Rocket is. And Brick is a personal highlight for me
Pink Matter Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I've been seeing the U.S. Girls around a bunch of lists so I'll give them a spin in due time. Same for Alex G (what kind of artist is he?). Wreath and Just Can't Get Enough Nothing Feels Natural and Need To Feel Your Love both flawless

Same for Alex G (what kind of artist is he?). Wreath and Just Can't Get Enough Nothing Feels Natural and Need To Feel Your Love both flawless This is a tough one because Alex has released plenty of lo-fi indie albums on Bandcamp and after signing up to Domino sort of expanded his sound. Beach Music aka his first album for them was sort of dream poppy, idk, and Rocket is basically indie rock/indie folk with elements of alt-country. And if this doesn't encourage you to check him out then I'm gonna mention that he's worked on Blonde and Endless and even toured with Frank U.S. Girls is releasing an album in February so you still have plenty of time to get to know her Aside from the new singles, you can check out Half Free, which was one of my favorite records of 2015
World Eater Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 Spoiler This is not a competition, but with so much protest music being released especially after Trump's election, no one sounds angrier, more brazen and powerful than Downtown Boys on their sax-driven single "A Wall". Spoiler For some reason, this is what I imagine to play in Elliot's mind in this 90s sitcom parody episode of "Mr. Robot" Spoiler "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" doesn't even try to be subtle. I mean, look at the title alone. And there's the political theme, then the riff that goes throughout the song, then the shouty chorus, THEN the AMAZING solo. Definitely something I would not expect from The National
World Eater Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 Spoiler I could write an essay about how good this album is (I actually did nn ) but it still wouldn’t do it justice, so I'm gonna keep it short. 'Take Me Apart' took years to make and even though Kelegend released a couple of projects in between, she'd saved the best for last. Her debut album is a complete experience. I feel like she had enough time to plan literally everything and take care of the smallest and dumbest details, like even the release date - I wouldn't call it a coincidence that 'Take Me Apart' came out exactly 20 years after Janet Jackson's masterful 'The Velvet Rope'. Spoiler What I like about Kendrick is that he hardly repeats himself. He could have easily pulled another 'To Pimp a Butterfly,' but why would he do that? Instead, he went full mainstream, but of course he did it on his own terms. 'DAMN.' is not only an ~urban~ album full of amazing hooks but a record with hidden gems and easter eggs that tells an exciting story. Spoiler A friend of mine recently asked me why do I like this so much but before I managed to explain it to him, he answered with "oh wait, you're a Beach House stan". While Slowdive's 's/t' was mixed by Chris Coady, who'd worked on Beach House's four last albums, I'd argue that it’s in any way like anything from Baltimore duo's catalogue. Hell, it doesn't sound like anything from Slowdive's own catalogue either. After spending some time with this record, I'd finally figured why does it work so well: Slowdive didn't reach too high this time around (side note: 'Pygmalion' was overly ambitious and they could have gone MUCH further with it) and also didn't try THAT hard. But the best thing is that you can feel the band’s chemistry on each of eight perfectly crafted songs on their first album in 22 years.

Wondervisions Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Wow, I'm shocked @ your top 10 diverse. Loved the Mount Eerie album, it made high on my list. World Eater is holy too. Priests' was good but and I stanned the **** out of it when it first came out but got old quick imho, Sheer Mag, lord I wanted to love the album so badly, I loved the three EPs, but somehow I feel Tina's voices work better in small doses? I just couldn't with her vocals this time around. Kelela made my list too superb album, queen of the future, and DAMN and Slowdive are pretty neat also.
MP2K Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Everything's great, excited for your top choices.
Lazuli Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 The System top 3, I never expected that I love it but it's far from the top 5 of the album tbh Kelela and Kendrick Slowdive Such perfection

I don't know where to start I'm expecting lots of diversity from your top 10, too, I know you'll come through As for Sheer Mag, I definitely get what you mean. It was easy for me to get behind that, though.
