World Eater Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 Spoiler So nice of Kendrick to drop the video for "LOVE." to celebrate iT appearing on my song list But jokes aside, this is a beautiful love letter to his fiancé and at the same time one of the most delicate songs in his catalogue. Spoiler ...and clear Sade influences on this smooth, sexual and climactic ballad. Spoiler I never know what to say about Rina so instead of describing this, I'm gonna post this gif of Mandaryna because it goes so well with this pop-perfect tune: Spoiler I thought 3 pre-release singles would be enough, especially for an album that contains only 10 songs, but guess The War on Drugs had other plans. Then they released two more - "Pain" and "Up All Night". Looking back, I did the right thing with ignoring both because it felt so right to first encounter them in the context of the album. And while the pretty straightforward "Pain" is beautiful, "Up All Night" is an example of what the band is best at - tracks that set a certain tone to the rest of the record.
World Eater Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 Spoiler With 'Past Life Martyred Saint' and 'The Future's Void' being one of my favorite releases of respectively 2011 and 2014, I had huge expectations for Erika's third LP. 'Exile' wasn't as instant as her previous two, but it certainly did not disappoint. I love how each of her albums is different from the previous one. 'Past Life' was raw felt almost naked, but at the same time it was packed with ANTHEMS. The "post-internet" 'Void' was more reserved, though definitely not sonically, and had amazing standouts. 'Exile' works best in its entirety and is her most experimental work yet. I especially love the drone-y "Breathalyzer" and "Fire Water Air LSD," which sounds like it’s stuck in a VHS tape. Spoiler Y'all know I have a soft spot for Foxygen. Their newest, 'Hang,' which shares the title with '...And PANNED Power's' (which I LOVED) closing track, marks a comeback to a simpler territory, at least in theory. It was recorded with a 40-some-piece orchestra and in result we have 8 melodic, Broadway-inspired tracks.

Eeveelution Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) I LOVE the first three sings - good spot for Rina. Edited December 22, 2017 by Eeveelution
Pink Matter Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 That song update You did THAT. And for albums, I enjoyed Foxygen's very much. I love the sort of 60s/70s Americana (not sure if this means what I think it does) feel in the production. Broadway style production also sounds accurate on say America.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I think i'm in the minority when I say I don't love Love (and it's not particularly Kendrick's fault either). Enjoy the rest however. Foxygen was on the down low it seems. Haven't seen them being mentioned much.
bluth Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 PUNCH after PUNCh in the songs. love has a cute meaning/intention but the "i wanna be wih YHOO" kinda ruins it for me the other three are excellent. def agree on the sade influences on die 4 u. whew. i think i had foxygen on my to-do list but it never happened lol.
