Someone tells Rihanna to do a remix for Cardi and send Bodak Yellow straight to #1 for one week before Taylor rules the chart :jonny3:

Yeah. Uptown Funk deserved to be the one that broke the record, as it was bigger all around (UF broke streaming consistency records while at #1). But, as I predicted after UF failed 2+ years ago, I said some song before the end of the 2010s would at least tie ODS if not break the record. Maybe some song will replace Despacito before 2019 ends.

That being said, with Despacito STILL selling 80k+ units a week and with over 2 M sold, it will be interesting to see if it might could get a streaming-heavy Diamond Certification. Despacito will probably max out no higher than 3.5 M, at the highest end. But it could get the almost 1 B streams needed to make up for the remaining 6.5 M in sales. That would likely not happen until 2018 though.

If she releases on Friday, and gets huge updates on radio with like 40 million in first 3 days, she will debut on the next week's chart in the lower region of Hot 100. The tracking period for radio is different from streaming and sales tracking period, it goes from Monday to Sunday. (That's how the chart works)

"Bodak Yellow" is not coming near "Despacito" in the next week (it has a 1.72-to-1 lead over it).

In 2012, Country radio also promoted (albeit briefly) "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," which helped her debut at #72, which had like 400 Adds and huge initial airplay numbers. Shake It Off debuted on Radio songs in 2014 the week before its Hot 100 appearance, but settled for Bubbling Under the week prior to its #1 debut. SIO only reached 58 at Country, and those spins/impressions were unsolicited.

So from Nate Ruess, to Kenny Chesney, and now to Eminem. That's quite a range. And her collab with Kenny Chesney was far and away the best Country/Non-Country paring last year. Since Chesney had already climbed to #12 on AC with Somewhere With You not that long ago, HAC and AC did Setting The World On Fire wrong.

@J-boy Wild Thoughts surged 14% this week, what were the reasons for this? discounted sales or airplay surge? thank u. do you think it will keep going up next week or this will be the peak?

But this situation would still prevent Despacito from breaking the record, right? It would only tie it at this point?

If Taylor releases on Friday, the single won't make it onto the chart until Sept 4.(That's how the chart works) that means Despacito will still tie Mariah on August 28(next week) unless Bodak Yellow dethrones it.

Yeah but he said "tomorrow" :celestial5:

Pretty sure that wouldn't be Friday, but yea the record is tied.

It's going to happen more often due to streaming. Mariah will be 10th on the list in a few years and her record will be long forgotten.

His (DJ Khaled's) label discounted sales actually.

Gosh Wild Thoughts is such an embarrassing fighter for #1. Discounted and doing borderline payola with money giveaways to help streaming and still can't go #1. A let down. He cheated his way to #1 a month ago, and now he can't get there when it's really needed. :shakeno:

Well to be fair the original version of Despacito was also discounted and promoted on GMA last week

And WT has only been discounted for 1 week out of the 6 weeks it spent at #2 so I wouldn't call it an embarrassing fighter for #1 :rip:

More like a deserving #1, with 175M AI (#1), 70k sales (#2), 33M streams (#4) last week it was stronger than a lot of songs that went #1

It only got to 70k because of the discount tho.. so big on radio and the song was barely holding on to top 10 on digital songs is embarassing. Despacito so many weeks later effortlessly continues to top the chart. Wild thoughts is anything but a deserved #1, just proof that regardless of label payola the gp will choose the #1
