In the midst of Chappell's sudden and surprise rise to fame, she dropped this orphan single. Good Luck, Babe!, a send-off track to a closeted lesbian lover who is too afraid to come out and embrace her love for Chappell. I dunno if she expected it to connect or not, maybe it was a gift to the fans... maybe it was a real attempt at a star-making single. Either way, nobody could've predicted how much it really blew up. I don't think there's any mystery as to why... it's an awesome song. It has a sort of '80s quality to it really, and people love breakup songs! Even the homophobes were including this one in their wedding playlists.

I think this is a really powerful song with a sort of sentiment that many of us understand all too well... I think Chappell is able to tackle all aspects of the heartbreak here. The resigned acceptance, the sorrowful yearning, and especially the anger. That bridge is just something else. One part of me thinks it's a misplaced anger, and you know what? I think that only makes the song better... of course her anger is misplaced - she's spiralling as she realizes their perfect love affair is never going to be. The whole thing is a series in emotional whiplash, warranted or not. Brilliant work all around.

Meloetta Carey: "The depressed American cousin of "J'en Ai Marre"."

Curaga: "Great song—after I heard it the first time, it got me to finally listen to Midwest Princess."

Ewan Chaos: "Not this being TACKED on for the rate even though it's not on her album in any format sdishdohodhshds. It is her best song yet though, so I'm not mad about it. Imagine she adds it to her next album and we have to rank it again in 2025."

Invisibility: "Weddings, graduations, funerals, baby queers were chanting this song."

Moonlight Nation: "My favourite hit of 2024 and the song that made me instantly fall in love with Chappell Roan. It also boasts the best bridge of the year. One hell of a first impression!"

This is even funnier now that it's made its way to #2 :deadbanana2:

When I think of a lead single for Brat, I don't see any other option than this one. It's immature, needlessly antagonistic, utterly jarring, and a musical overload in many places.

So... a brat?

I think the magic in Von dutch is the way that it carefully threads the needle between being a bop for the basic girls and being something harder for the longtime XCX addicts. It does this masterfully. "Cult classic but I still pop." Couldn't have said it better myself.

Charli is bragging about her stats, her acclaim, her fashion. She's autotuned to all hell. The backing track sounds like somebody poured their drink onto the DJ table. How can you not love every note of this? She said: I did my popstar era, and it was fun and all... but I'm really into breaking things and causing chaos. Brat hadn't even blown up like that yet, but even from the first song we heard she has demanding you treat her like the biggest star in the world.

Pure c*nt. Pure br*t.

Curaga: "Vroom Vroom's lil sis came to SLAY."

Ewan Chaos: "CMON YEAH YEAH BY BODYROX."

Invisibility: "Such a stature it held and made a mark for this smash album. The video is what I needed to solidify its grip on me."

Moonlight Nation: "It goes so hard. Fantastic lead single even if it didn't get the commercial success it deserved. Trouble is, the remix with Addison Rae goes even harder and has become my favourite version of the song - as much as I still adore the original."

Glad the Addison Rae destroyer prevailed. Diet Pepsi remains overrated trash

Wooooow, amazing results!!! :jonnycat:

Oh, Von dutch, the absolute slay that you are... I remember being addicted to the snippet for what felt like weeks before the full song even dropped. I absolutely LOVE how that revving synth sounds like a car engine, kind of making it another car song in her repertoire nnn

It was fun. I may not have clicked with Charli too much but Tinashe's EP was great and of course Chappell and Sabrina were good.

Kind of surprised Sabrina was a bit hated on..

also, only 1 song of Tinashe's in the Top 10?

Thanks for hosting!

Kinda can't believe Quantum Baby ranked second overall in averages and Sabrina came last, but I guess that's the fun of these rates

My girl. :penguin: Just like in real life, Tinashe falls short of the heights that the other women reached... but we know she still reigns supreme in our hearts. Nasty was not a hit out of the gate at all, this is what we call a slow burn. Released in early 2024, Nasty was decently received by the Nashe fans but made no big waves. But all it took was one nerdy twink gyrating his hips to this song to make Tik Tok erupt in Tinashe stanning, the likes of which we had not seen in a decade!

stantwt-tinashe-nasty.gif

Fun fact: that was a fan edit, he wasn't originally dancing to Nasty. We'll take the viral hit tho!

Regardless, hit or not, Nasty is a good old sex bop. Something that even Janet would be grinding her Republican puss to these days. One of those songs that is just laden with hooks. Each verse, pre-chorus, post-chorus etc. just seems to bop more than the last part of the song. It was so satisfying to see Tinashe get even a modicum of GP love after all this time, and despite what some bitter fans might say... this was a track well-deserving of the praise!

Meloetta Carey: "I kind of wish it just started with the hook but that might make the reptitive and monotonous allegations even worse."

Rev8: "As a Tinashe fan, it's sad to see that an Okay T song is getting viral when there are so many amazing songs in her discography... many."

Ewan Chaos: "So deserving that this ended up being a decent hit for her, even if it deserved to be even bigger!"

Moonlight Nation: "Guaranteed to become a 2020s R&B classic in my view. 'is somebody gonna match my freak?' made for one of the best trends of 2024, and the whole song is beyond catchy."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, should be in the top 3

I fear miss Carpenter should've put Busy Woman on the main tracklist... and taken off about four other songs.

I don't get the raves for Nasty, she has so many better songs. Thirsty & When I Get You Alone for example.

Would have panned it as well if I participated. :fan:

And apparently you don't like Juno when it's the best song on the album.

Club Classic getting in the top 10 at all makes me happy. Tinashe out first BOOOO should have been Chappell. Glad she got in top 10 too though.

Sorry to the girlies that don't get Espresso & thank God the GP surprisingly did. Glad it made top 5 even if barely.

360 and 365 leaving together is just right... but the mainstream girlies picked the WRONG one to leave first! Ah well.

Genuinely shocked Von Dutch was both her highest & the winner :rip: Thought the "proper hits" would outsell. Not mad about it, always been in my top ranking of the songs! I wish I panned Good Luck Babe a lil extra though. Amazing song but #2 compared to other song...? NOPE.

Thanks as always for an amazing rate with fun graphics @Graves my fellow 365 enjoyer. Let me be "bumping that" as the kids say in celebration.
