Pop Art Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I'm sad to say I'm a bit let down by this. :( As with MOTS, the visuals and concept are STUNNING and everything I could ask for, but the music, for the most part, just falls flat for me unfortunately. As with the last record, there are moments of greatness that I definitely appreciate. The first half-ish of the title track is a level of perfection they haven't served in decades — it literally made me tear up. THAT'S the Coldplay I'm missing. Alien Hits / Alien Radio is also very good. I was pleasantly surprised at Aeterna, and Good Feelings was cute. Perhaps I'll step away and give it another listen with fresh ears. It's been said many time by now, but I feel like their problem is when they try to make "commercial" music. Sometimes it works, but more and more it's feeling like it doesn't. The best songs on their last two albums have been the ones that were the least commercial. Still looking forward to the last album in this MOTS Trilogy (?).

DirtyPony87 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Very disappointed by this, but, at the same time, I almost expected it. Only truly love 3-4 songs off this. Hate another 3. And very torn and meh about the remaining 3. I didn't like their previous effort either, but at least that had the masterpiece Coloratura on it. This album has no such song. I'll go back to those songs that I loved, but I don't think I can get past the cringe lyrics in some of the songs to give this album another full spin after 3 efforts.

rta1913 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Let me listen to Blue Moon, sounds intresting... As for the standard, I like it. But I have learned to love the "new" Coldplay. I guess it is unfair to expect them to serve the same artistic creativity from their first four albums. It's ok to admit that artist also peak creatively. So for me everything post Mylo is "judged" differently and I set my expecations accordingly. And of course fans are entitled to not listen to them in their new pop era. I have to say though, I don't like MOTS or MM as much, I believe they have been stuck in that same sound since MX but somehow that album and AHFOD managed to have an identity of their own. The last two albums not so much. They need to work with someone different to Max Martin. I appreciate left field tracks like Alien Radio and such, and although they are songs I would not play more than once, I can respect what they were trying to do. However, when paired with such pop or bubllegum tracks, it feels idk, not genuine? I LOVE Jupiter and of course Aeterna and Good Felings are bops. I also liked IAAM, it has some interesting moments and it's not as corny as some of these selflove, self-improvement anthems usually are. I also like the 2 singles. For some reason, I cannot get into ALL MY LOVE, the vocals throw me off and also I find the lyrics pretty basic. Let's see if the SNL performance changes my mind or the live version in Blue Moon.
MatiRod Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Haven't sunk my teeth into this yet but I disagree with the notion that Coldplay have lost it recently. 'Everyday Life' was great as a whole album. 'Music of the Spheres' big two singles ("Higher Power" and "My Universe") were geniunely great.

The random songs with just mostly music ruined the experience for me. All the good songs are in the Full Moon edition. I'm gonna create my own playlist This is my playlist.
