But they don't, so your logic doesn't make sense. Yea you're obviously looking for an argument and this will be my last time responding. I addressed this on the page before this one. my answer still stands, Taylor is white, Beyoncé is not. Thanks for the entertainment 7

Wigs and dance moves and bey will still be more respected than Taylor Swift. Numbers will not change that fact. Everybody including the racist whites know that Bey is more talented.

makeme Posted April 18 Posted April 18 A white women who works her ass off will never be topped(unfortunately). You can't hate the player you have to hate the game
DevilsRollTheDice Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) If being white and mediocre was the key y'all's faves would be selling much better Edited April 18 by DevilsRollTheDice
Nickimeetsatrl Posted April 18 Posted April 18 If Taylor swift was black, she would not cross 5k sales after 30+ years. Meanwhile if Beyonce was white, she would have still been successful, maybe even more. 6

Taylor could never do this, she's safe, she needs to be played as the background music in a McDonald's ad, appeal to everyone. So far out of the two eras it's been Beyoncé in a jeans commercial so uh 💀 1

That is not a dig at Taylor Swift. It's just a fact. 3

Bubble Tea Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I can't say I relate to either of their music much, but Taylor is definitely more relatable than Bey. I really have no clue what Bey's thoughts are don't click with her music, even though I can appreciate it is good music. Taylor's doesn't really gel much with me but she's such a well publicised celebrity, you can kinda piece together what it's all about so that it means something. Bey is so much more abstract. Like Cowboy Carter, has she been having a particularly country influenced few years or something? Reconnected with her roots? I have no idea, it seems 100% artificial and curated, nothing natural. (even if that's not the case, that's how it seems to me) At least Taylor being depressed or whatever TTPD aesthetic is can be linked to being a megastar (loneliness) and her various relationship turmoils.

Mariah and Whitney are black and they are Legends. Why can't Beyonce achieve that success just because she is black? 1
Rotunda Posted April 18 Posted April 18 @The 1 @Josh I don't think people are saying that Taylor is only big because she's white, or that there's nothing else justifying why she ranks above any other white artist. She obviously has a comparative advantage somewhere. I think the point is that in the context of the conversation between Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, Taylor maintains access to a wider subset of the population partially by function of her whiteness. Taylor has a different audience which impacts commercial success. This isn't to say that no artist is unable to overcome that racial gap (e.g. Michael Jackson), but that they play from totally different positions. We don't have a Black female pop star that operates within the "suburban girl next door" niche the same way that Taylor has, and that's for a reason. The closest Black artist to Taylor in terms of both style and competencies is probably SZA, but even she operates from a much more mature/graphic place. 1

PMM Posted April 18 Posted April 18 because her fans work they know the value of money, they will buy one album or 2 (more if they are a stan) and that's it. Their parents won't give them money for it. Also they are intellectuals who listen to more music, not only their fav - B, they know a lot of genres and support other people. 1
The 1 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Not the Beyonce fans acting like they are no more successful black popstars than Taylor
