KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) Hell is Near is a great opener, the outro is very captivating. Reckless is so good. Broken Man is obviously a SOTY contender and Flea definitely remains as my personal favorite on the album. That guitar outro alone is just insane. Not gonna lie the record kinda slows down for me a little bit after Big Time Nothing. I don't really love Violent Times and The Power's Out that much. Both have great melodies and production but something makes it kinda boring a little. Sweetest Fruit is definitely also one of my favorites (despite #that lyric). I kinda dig the "reggae" vibes. This song kinda proves how great of a producer she is. So Many Planets also kinda has this same vibe. The outro on that one is also so good and explosive. The title track is my 2nd fav on initial listen. That's a career highlight. Funk-rock music suits her so well. Overall 8/10 Top 3: Flea All Born Screaming Broken Man Edited April 26 by KatyPrismSpirit 2
B-Luke Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Amazing album, way better than the previous one. Turns out the singles weren't even the best songs on the album, oh wow. 1
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 26 Posted April 26 If I were to rank every song: 1. Flea 2. All Born Screaming 3. Broken Man 4. Reckless 5. Hell Is Near 6. Sweetest Fruit 7. Big Time Nothing 8. So Many Planets 9. Violent Times 10. The Power's Out
Démodé Posted April 26 Posted April 26 The fact that no-one's speaking about the ORGASMIC masterpiece the title track is.... O M G. Violent Times Sweetest Fruit Big Time Nothing best 3 after that!
JoeAg Posted April 26 Posted April 26 different eyes you're the same but i've got different eyes how could i ever have been so blind? blame these violent times when all of the bombs inside, all of the wires i hide all of the wasted nights chasing mortality when in the ashes of pompeii, lovers discovered an embrace for all eternity I must have been dreaming… I fell down the well… but I swear you were hearing me, through the noise and static and the CALLLLLLL!
makeawish Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) right, on a first listen i thought this was good, esp hell is near (great counterintuitive opener) broken man (which is good rather than bad like i'd thought) big time nothing (which deserves to be a hit but ofc it won't) violent times (james bond vibes) sweetest fruit (nice afrobeat turn tho the sophie line feels a bit yikes). as a 'daddy's home is good actually' truther i feel like this is an extension of that sound as much as a turning away from it, you need to go thru that idea of funk to end up here i think. also, have been warming to the idea that st vincent should produce taylor: she's ditched jack once, now is the time to yeet him from his most powerful position Edited April 26 by makeawish 1
Vulnicura Posted April 26 Posted April 26 finished first listen, an immediate hit which i think will age very very well. a surprisingly hopeful album! 1

Dragonfly Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) I need some more time with it, but Reckless and ViolenTimes are good edit: wait, Power´sOut just hit Edited April 26 by Dragonfly
Fancyhoodlum Posted April 26 Posted April 26 first album of hers that I listened in full. I really enjoyed the first few songs but then the album feels weaker in second part, although the last song is great
justin. Posted April 26 Posted April 26 The last minute of Reckless… oh, Annie! You didn't have to slay me like that! 3
SpaceOddity Posted April 26 Posted April 26 1. Hell Is Near 2. Big Time Nothing 3. Reckless 4. Flea 5. Broken Man 6. Sweetest Fruit 7. All Born Screaming 8. Violent Times 9. So Many Planets 10. The Power's Out
EdgeofTeeth Posted April 26 Posted April 26 This is nothing but front to back quality, as expected. My only complaint is that there isn't more of the industrial mania of Reckless/Broken Man. I also don't think it would have hurt to include one or two more songs to bring it all together. 4
