vale9001 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 (edited) I'm not specifically talking about the fact if she's really that talented or not, the thread it's not exactly about that. Lady Gaga was chosen by a very loved, and very well inserted in the Hollywood system, actor for his first movie. The movie was the fourth movie and the third remake of "brand" in Hollywood already collected 18 Oscar nominations (everyone of them with multi nominees). She was there in a musical was build for the Oscars, near to a very loved already multinominated actor. Everything was right and screamed "both this actor are gonna get a nomination" (like Gosling- Stone for La La Land the year before). After the success of the movie she was casted by another director certainly important but not exactly at his peak in terms of critical and awards acclaim. Infact the movie was snubbed by the Academy and despite a very strong and savage campaign and the hype from the film before Gaga failed to get another nomination. Is gaga really in the position in Hollywood to be talked like "a possibile next nomination" every time she gets a role, only because she was nominated for the perfect oscar bait movie A star is born? yes. According to little monsters reactions. For them right now she's right there with like Emma Stone, Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan etc.. like these actress are working with Gerwig, Scorsese, Lanthimos, Tarantino, Inarritu, Anderson etc... but actually she's not there. She has worked with Robert Rodriguez, then with an hollywood star is trying to be a director (failing a nomination as director two times despite Best picture), than Ridley Scott in the year of lord 2022 and the director of Road Trip for a sequel of Joker. She's not in the field they think she has. Maybe there is a great actress inside her, maybe a bright future in the acting field in terms of success and famous roles ( cause legendary actors are not only the ones with an oscar nomination every 2 year or with a movies at Cannes or Venice every two years) but right now her weight in the Hollywood system in terms of being in the top tier quality field is overrated by her fans Edited February 26 by vale9001 8 3 6 42

Donquizote Posted February 26 Posted February 26 No, she won New York Film Critics Circle for Best Actress. A stan of Razzie-nominated actress can't relate 4 5 5 1
Popular Post Zaram Posted February 26 Popular Post Posted February 26 (edited) She is one of the highest paid females for a sequel of the joker movie - literally one of the most known villians. I fear instead oghs are delusional about gagas place in the acting field Edited February 26 by Zaram 21 2

Famous people starring in buzzy titles are always in the position where they are considered contenders for another nomination. Especially when those famous people are already Oscar nominated actors. 5
LittleStarmen Posted February 26 Posted February 26 (edited) No they are not delusional Gaga has the singing/dramatic performances that none of her peers have and a very classic old hollywood style that puts her in her own lane. Star is born could have easily been forgetable Edited February 26 by LittleStarmen 9
GraceRandolph Posted February 26 Posted February 26 No, she is one of the highest paid and most acclaimed actresses of the 2020s. What’s there to be delusional about? 6

suburbannature Posted February 26 Posted February 26 She’s good sometimes, but yes. The meltdowns when people posted all of the negative reviews her HOG performance received they've calmed down a lot, though. Early buzz says she’s good in Joker: FAD 6 1
Shimenawa Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Please only Cher & her succeeded Barbra & J.Lo started as actresses It is very hard for a pop singer to transition successfully 4
SharGaga Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Can you wait for Joker 2 at least before making this thread? It's her first film that's highly anticipated on a global level.
playboi Posted February 26 Posted February 26 yes ASIB wasn't even that good and it was just another award-bait movie made for Hollywood to circle jerk over 1 1 7

Jay07 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 She's had two roles and they were both acclaimed (even if Gucci was mixed overall). I think they're right to be optimistic, Gaga has leveraged her talent and her celebrity status very well but she still needs to solidify herself in the A list. There will definitely be a lot of interest in Joker. 5

Popular Post Abracadabra Posted February 26 Popular Post Posted February 26 She's commanding $12M for her third movie, has had major award noms for both of her roles so far including an Oscar nom for her debut, and has directors like Guillermo del Toro and Jane Campion clamouring to work with her, the only delusional people are the ones trying to convince themselves she's not one of Hollywood's most in-demand actors working today. It's also extremely delusional to say that ASIB was some kind of Oscar bait film, considering that the Academy is notoriously averse to remakes and movies starring singers turned actors. Before the film came out, most people were saying she was a shoo-in for a Razzie and the film would bomb, literally nobody was saying that she was guaranteed an Oscar nomination so you are just making that up. 2 14
Digitalism Posted February 26 Posted February 26 yes But even she is delusional about her place in hollywood Waiting years between movies just to choose a movie by a director that in the last 2 decades has mostly missed like Ridley was a dumb move If she wanted to be a working actress she should have choosen maybe smaller roles that were more challenging where she is not the center of attention Now she is in Joker 2 with another director with a horrible track record that has never done a musical. It's another big gamble after a critical and comercial flop like HOG 1 13
