Maybe they laid off the people who were on Beyoncé’s payroll.  6 months ago, they would have called claimed “Beyoncé innovates new country RnB pop fusion in groundbreaking new song”.

Why is this so accurate? :deadbanana4:

Wtf? This track is full of personality and paying homage to her roots. this is not radio filler at all. pitchfork coming through with their shitty opinions again

What's personal about it exactly? It might be her most generic song in recent memory.

It goes back to Beyoncé’s early roots of being a cowgirl, doing the hoe-down, drinking whiskey at divebars, doing the boogie, etc.

I'm confused about people saying this is for the fans. What Beyoncé fans asked for a country album?  Isn't country one of the least liked genres by black people despite them creating genre? I doubt Beyoncé is going to change that, especially with these two songs.

Beyonces strength is R&B. All her memorable Songs like Cuff It, Plastic of the Sofa, the 4 album, Bday album, Dangeorusly in Love, Destiny Fulfilled. She can experiment all she wants with house, country, rock,  Afrobeat, trap whatever but her most natural home and classic songs will always be the R&B catalog

I get that 100%. However, I understand why Beyonce won't do a full R&B album again. She simply can't get away with doing traditional R&B without failing to meet expectations. She knows that her fans won't support that the way they do Grammy bait. That is why she has been on this think-outside-of-the-box rampage since 4. She pigeonholed herself; I don't blame her because traditional R&B simply doesn't work for today's consumer.

Bey is still, in her essence, the soulful RnB girl that we got to know 20 years ago as evidenced by this mashup

The harmonies and vocal layerings on Texas are still very reminiscent of RnBey
