Shelter Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Maybe it’s because she is R&B? Janet is very dated, even down to the way she performs imo 1

Popular Post Dr. Alexander Posted January 18 Popular Post Posted January 18 The racism in here is straight up jarring. I should call each one of you out. Stating that she is "forgotten" or "unknown to young people". For who? White people? White Gen-Z? Black Gen-Z is incredibly familiar with Janet and her music. You can go to any predominantly Black high school or HBCU and see her merch on somebody or somebody playing her music. This erasure of Black consumption and implying that, “well young white people don’t know her music” as if white people are the be all, end all is racist. Her concerts were filled with young Black people last year. 21 1 1 2

ZeroPoint Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I think if she ever decides to release Black Diamond it would probably help. I grew up listening to her music but I didn’t become a super-fan until Unbreakable

Sure, that helps. But for example, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was ALWAYS a huge hit. Nothing from Janet ever came close. 1 1

folkhoax Posted January 18 Posted January 18 She has an amazing discography (tbh, she has the better albums than Madonna). Her videography is also exquisite. I think the NFL halftime show really hurt her career. She also remained dormant after that. And she's never active on social media. She also doesn't have that "one" song that is considered timeless that can carry her discography. I think if she engages more in social media and participate in trends, she might see a boost. 1 3

And to be fair, RnB-based artists always have less streams than pop acts But her streams are worse than some of the actual R&B stars. Mezter Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Makes no sense. She's a legend and her discography is perfect 1
Armani? Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Janet can still sell out arenas so there's some disconnect with her music & her performances
Stankonia Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Yay another Janet slander party prompted by a pressed Madonna stan! Imagine how tired we are 3 2 3

Also Mary released her first album 10 years after Janet's debut.

The only thing that hasn't changed for the past 10 years is your pathetic obsessive hate for her. Janet literally just had a successful, sold out arena tour that earned more than $50 million with some shows grossing almost $3 million which is a career high, a tour that will have a second leg this summer. Her last album charted at #1 on the BB200 selling more that 110k in its first week with no promotion and no major label backing. Her last single managed to chart on the Hot 100 which is something few of her peers can still do. So no she hasn't been "doing poorly everywhere for the past 10 years". Aristede Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I don't think she ever recovered after the Superbowl incident to be honest. I think people decided she was a "threat to the children" (which is ridiculous because these same children grew up seeing images of 9/11 and the "War on Terror" every single day so I am sure a naked breast for half a second was the least of their worries). But they decided nonetheless that their kids couldn't listen to her music anymore because she was a "disgusting ***** with no morals" and that ruined her legacy for future generations. The whole reaction to that was a mixture of racism and misogyny. If it was a white artist like Madonna they would've been pissed, but she would've been forgiven in time and not erased. 1 1
GlamSlam Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Why on earth would Madonna stans be "pressed" about someone with lower sales, streaming and touring numbers? and this is coming from someone who actually likes Jan. 1 3 2
ariesgroove Posted January 18 Posted January 18 frankly it’s their loss cause you’re robbing yourself of pop/r&b excellence

On a personal level I can name 25 Janet songs that I like much more than GJWHF, but yeah it’s a humongous hit (even though it was only number 2 on HOT100)
Stankonia Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Like imagine taking delight in the fact that someone who was the victim of a huge racist and misogynistic witch-hunt and who had one of the most powerful executives in the entertainment industry making it his life goal to hinder her career in everyway possible now has lackluster streaming stats. Some of y'all are so hateful and for what? Janet doesn't even bother anyone. Also, imagine acting suprised that someone like Kylie who's been very active and releasing consistantly finally outdid Janet on spotfiy when the latter has released only one album in the last 15 years that she didn't even promote. Because, yes, Janet used to have better Spotify stats than Kylie until not that long ago. And of course everyone conveniently ignores the fact that Janet is severly under playlisted compared to all her peers which obviously plays a huge role in her lackluster stats. 7 2

Idk you tell me weirdo! Janet just announced a 2nd leg to her tour and that was enough to get quite a few of your fellow M stans to hate on twitter. I can't count how many completely unprovoked hate tweets coming from pressed Madonna stans I've seen since Janet started her tour so y'all are clearly insecure about something. Sure you do. 2 2
Jay07 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 She has had no real presence for over a decade, the people using these platforms the most (teens and young adults) probably aren't even aware of her. Why that happened is a combination of the blacklist that stopped her career dead in its tracks and Janet basically giving up and making no effort to familiarize herself with new fans. No new music, even a feature with a hot acts like Doja Cat or Drake (and don't tell me they wouldn't love to have a literal legend on their track). No social media presence outside of corny live, laugh, pray soccer mom sayings. Absolutely no attempt to document and preserve her legacy. Fans had to literally beg to sort out her videos on YouTube. It's terrible. 3
playwithme Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I haven't heard a single Janet song apart from So Excited. 1 1
Luckitty Posted January 18 Posted January 18 i discovered janet from atrl (i'm not american) i think most people my age who aren't from an English speaking country don't know her or only know her by name 3 1
Moth 2 The Flame Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Funnily enough, Janet will be getting a 500M streamed song on Spotify soon...as a songwriter, Poetic Justice by Kendrick Lamar & Drake which samples Janet's Anytime, Anyplace song is currently at 483M streams and getting 200-300k daily streams. 5
