They don’t care about Hostages

I'd be livid if I were a family member of one of the hostages

you should really be mad at the fact that people's lives are being used as currency and there are hostages in general.

That's when you know. No matter your predisposed political alignment when it comes to Israel and Palestine, the evidence of oppression, destruction, and human rights violations in Gaza is incredibly palpable. We all know what is happening in this region is wrong and our governments are doing nothing to stop it. The matter of the fact is, whether people understand this or not, is that the unfolding of events in Palestine today is history in motion and people will have to come to terms with which side of history they were on when years from now, the heavily armed state of Israel coordinating genocide on innocent civilians in Palestine. People will have to contend with the generations after us asking how we could ignore the blatant suffering and extermination of human beings, and this time with mass access to proof and evidence on social media and beyond of this genocide (unlike in previous years when the only source of news was capitalist-controlled media such as newspapers and channel news).

People are now contending with the personal contradictions of their values and what they observe to be happening: they are beginning to understand where the false notion that their governments are completely self-interested and don't care about human rights, only human property. There is no other way to explain why they continue to stand with Israel when they continue to bomb, displace, and exterminate innocent people unnecessarily. People are seeing this now more than ever: the evils being committed with the explicit support and funding of the governments they elect and pay taxes to.

We are at the crossroads in the shift of society based on the material conditions, that of (1) open and mostly free access of the masses to information, truth, and discourse (2) high levels of education and intellectual development of the masses in the west (elimination of physical labour and increase in educated/professional professions in the west), and (3) the ability of the western masses to pressure the powers to bend. The sooner everyone understands the issue here in Palestine, the sooner we will understand the broader picture of what is happening beyond. And there is so much. Atrocities of imperialism in every corner of the globe and ""3rd world country"". Because if we can't hope to liberate ONLY Palestine, we will not even see what else there is to be liberated. So it's time to get educated. #FreePalestine

Back in 2014, the last time a "conflict" (I dread the use of that word to describe the atrocity of what's happening, but I don't think I can be very eloquent right now), I was a child, but I was very online, and I don't remember even 5% of the information that's available today circulating massively.

Continuing to support Israel in 2023, even being neutral in the face of disaster, has no excuses, no explanations. The media is continuing to disinform, but we no longer get our information from CNN, we get it directly from the victims. This genocide is being documented in front of our eyes to a painful degree. If you go online, you cannot escape the mutilated bodies, the grieving parents, the crying children. The blood, the gore, the bombs. How can ANYONE turn a blind eye to this?

There are no "both sides" anymore. The "conflict in the Middle East" has stopped being a number of deaths we hear in the news once in a while. They have faces and stories and tears and I truly think you have to lack the barest hint of humanity and empathy to ignore this.

Our governments will continue to endorse this, I have no faith they'll change. They clearly do not care about the heavy push coming from the masses. Almost every single country has hosted huge protests for Palestine and if anything things have gotten worse and politicians have done even less. It's incredibly disheartening to know that we're witnessing a huge chapter of very very dark history and to know that there's very little we can do.

When you look back at this time, what will you remember you were doing? Protesting, educating yourself and those around you, trying to send aid? Or making excuses for genocide? I think that's a very important question people need to ask themselves.

I've already expressed that idiot.....let me guess you don't recognize that the Isreali Gov/IDF are at the the root of the problem here

Israel saying that this war started because of the hostages yet showing time and time again that they don't care about them at all and would rather keep bombing Gaza even if it means bombing those Israeli citizens :)

calm down girl. no need for name calling. i'm sure if you can access atrl you have understand how to read the room and respond properly.

and yes I have done research and followed it. my point was I believe you should be more mad that there are hostages in general. especially in a war they wanted no parts of.

I hope you understand what reading comprehension is.

It was just announced on TV news that a protest in support of Palestine will take place here in Croatia. I want to go but I have never been to a protest before, and I don't wanna go alone. I am messaging my friends to see if someone wants to go with me!

I have never done any signs or things like that, nor I'm artistic to do them so I would be going without any transparents. Is that okay?

You don't need to take anything! Plenty of people go empty-handed. The important part is to show up. Mind your surroundings and you should be okay, do take someone who's gone to a protest before if you can

General protest advice is to wear sunglasses. I know these groups have had hundreds of thousands of people but with what I'm hearing about people getting fired, reprimanded etc., and now with facial recognition technology through eyes (PimEyes), I think it's a good idea.

Of course it's okay. You showing up in solidarity is more than enough. You're taking responsibility and making your voice heard to stand up for people who can't. Stay safe

Thank you guys so much! I will try my best to organize!

I am excited, never been to a protest before. My country doesn't thankfully have a biased media. Our president is pro-Palestine while our prime minister says everything that EU would approve

I kinda want to message one of my ex-Grindr dates cause I know he is progressive but sending him a random message out of nowhere after 5 months would be so weird and awkward :deadbanana2:

We never were a thing or anything, we just went on dates to walk around the park and had long conversations. He for sure will be going but I don't want to look desperate or weird messaging him nnnnnn;

as someone who has done many protests here in nyc here are some tips .

- wear sunglasses or cover your face to protect your privacy..

- go with a friend but I recommend 4 people. this way at least everyone is close to someone they trust.

- share your location with your friends you're with as well as someone who you trust who is not attending. this way if anything is to happen you have a connect available.

 - DO NOT ANTAGONIZE THE AUTHORITIES If YOU ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO HANDLE WHAT COMES WITH BEING ARRESTED.

- there are people there who are willing to put themselves in front of the authorities in order to protect you and the message that is being sent. do not try to be a hero.you showing support in person is enough.

- if the protest is looking as though it is escalating, leave and find a safe space away from the authorities and commotion. if at any point you do not feel comfortable walking with the crowd, I would recommend finding a space space to show your support as well as your comfortability.

also wanted to add: set a landmark as a destination point just in case someone gets lost or isn't able to be reached. this will ensure that a safe point is established in case of an emergency. I hope this helps and if you do attend a protest, please protect yourself and your friends.

Not to justify what Israel is doing to Palestinians (they should get STOPPED immediately) but Gaza is an irrelevant small piece of land for Israel's interest economically or historically. Why didn't they incite the Hamas situation in West Bank which is a far more important region for Israel than Gaza?

Israel is absolutely to blame for Hamas existence but I don't think Israel intentionally created them.

Not people mass downvoting me for saying Israel did not intentionally create Hamas. You know that Israel's defense system can defend Israelis from being killed in up to thousands by Hamas' airstrikes? Israel could've easily let Hamas kill +2000 Israeli civils long before this October if Hamas were deliberately created by them but they waited +30 years.

I think the whole creation of Israel was a mistake. Jews are safer in America and Western Europe than they are in Israel and Palestinians are being oppressed and killed in masses there.

Negotiating with terrorists who are holding hostages incentives them to do it again knowing it gives them "power" over you. This is like government policy 101.

The bad guys here are the ones who took the hostages, not the ones not willing to "negotiate" for their release.

Notice how it was "50" hostages and not "all" the hostages. If one negotiation works then they'll up the stakes for the rest.

You gotta be kidding me! ...stop trying to make this a good vs. bad situation. Hamas is deplorable and the Isreali Gov/IDF are astronomically worst.

The fact is, they are bombing all of Gaza into oblivion, killing children, and innocent people in the name of these hostages yet won't even accept 50 hostages in return for fuel.... something that should already be flowing into Gaza for basic humanitarian needs.

Why would they give all their hostages up so easily :skull:

Why are people putting up posters of the hostages in the UK and US. What’s the point of that?

Idk the "bad guys" would be the ones who have been committing crimes of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, land theft, genocide & holding hostages (sorry, detainees without charge or trial) for +70 years if you asked me. But hey that's just me! 🤷‍♂️

It's the way this user has been trying to act like they're neutral and they literally just called Israel "the good guys" right after they topped off 2K murdered children.
