She's some sort of legend, just not entirely for her music career.

Yes, I’m a fan of the certified legend, MC, who is the reason your fave started singing.

I’ve made entire threads about why I didn’t think she was, but honestly, I think it’s delusional to deny it. She may not have the “artistry” but she’s made an indelible mark on the industry and much of her music has stood the test of time.

It's the "Oh, I tried to deny it. Oh how I tried! But I'm afraid it shan't be denied anymore" performance for me lmao.

To answer the question, it depends on your definition of a legend. If you think a tabloid start is a legend then yes she is.

Not in terms of music career.

I don't know why so many people are calling Britney the 'blueprint' in this thread when she basically took the Janet blueprint and changed nothing about it.

In fact I can't think of anything she did, maybe the first successful transition from teen image to adult image in pop music?

With that said, she's clearly an icon, yes.

girlie they based a whole .ss disney show on her that became a phenomenon in its own right

anything touched by britney turned into solid gold for a good 10 years, right up until she was forced under a conservatorship

she's a blueprint in the sense that countless artists were being debuted after her modeled straight after her and her imagery (which she was the driving force behind) has been reproduced countless of times

name one song by janet that does what Toxic does?

name one song by janet that does what Oops does?

name one song by janet that does what Piece of Me does?

right, lol

Britney combined several elements of pop music and created a final package so revered to the point where I'd say that a significant part of k-pop and hyperpop is just a result of the britney print

It's not just about the music, or the performances, or the music videos, or the interview persona. It's all of these things combined that are the Britney print. Janet was a mennace in interview. All the 80s and 90s divas were. And Janet's music videos were shot in completely different ways.

some iconic imagery that was directly decided by Britney herself:

I am not really into her music apart from maybe 3 songs but she is already a legend.

Britney, Beyonce (certified legends)

Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor, Katy and Adele are also on their way to becoming "legends" too

Britney is literally the blueprint of the pop prototype we still see today. If it wasn’t for Britney, none of the artists that are currently scoring massive hits with Swedish pop producers would be a thing either for example

Wow, so Madonna and Janet never existed?

Yes, they are the mothers.

I think they were saying for the style of pop as of now.

Pop female entertainers

Archetype:

Cher/Tina/Donna Summer/Diana Ross

Trailblazer Blueprint:

Madonna/Janet/Paula

Remodernized Youth driven Blueprint:

Britney/JLO/Shakira/Pink/Beyonce

She's a legend in pop culture and a defining face of celebrity culture as well though I don't think she is a legend in her career for music.

No she's a cautionary tale about what not to do in the music industry.

There is an undercover xitna militia on ATRL yes hihi

ot:

Most would say a legend either has to be respected or have immense talent - i think its impressive she has gotten to her level with such minimal talent and going into a tabloid star after 4 years of career.

I do think she's over-rated on atrl, a lot of the time at the expense of lashing xtina (the only one of her peers she can really stand out against in terms of receipts) and her fans are a bit in denial which doesn't really give legend...

but she has contributed a hell of a lot to pop culture and BOMT is a classic. I think she could be argued for as a legend

Yes, her memoir will cement her as a legend,

of course she is

for what she did in her 2000s prime she is definitely an icon. its very hard to say concretely legendary but my views on this shift from time to time tbh. when you put her up against well-recognized legends it just doesnt seem to click
