OT: A Pop icon for sure but a legend? :skull:

I swear this word get thrown here anarchically :toofunny3:

Imagine putting Britney in the same bag as extremely talented people and REAL legends like Aretha,Michael,Tina,Whitney,Prince......  Some of you are so out of touch with reality :deadbanana:

Britney is an iconic figure, but “legend” implies being up there with Madonna, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, etc. She is not.

The delusion of someone in this thread saying Britney was the “blueprint” for Beyoncé when Destiny’s Child debuted the same year as Britney :deadbanana: Please be for real. Or that she invented teen pop and Swedish songwriting like Max Martin wasn’t already producing for the Backstreet Boys (who debuted and had hits in 1996) or *NSYNC. That’s not even getting into ABBA putting Swedish pop music on the map decades earlier :deadbanana:

This is why no one takes Britney stans seriously — they try to revise history at any opportunity.

Well yeah, duh. Anyone that says otherwise is a delusional OBH.

Just going out and seeing the major reaction when her songs come out, regardless of where I am or with whom Im with, it's mind-blowing.

No. Legends are acclaimed and have tons of longevity.

Which Britney doesn’t: her last multi-platinum album in the US was released before the digital era kicked off. :rip:

Hold Me Closer is a only 1x platinum after a year and her last single has less than 50M streams. There’s no reaction to her songs.

Is she particularly excellent ?

is there one field in which she dominates ?

does she possess any sort of extraordinary talent ?

has she produced any acclaimed widely consumed and remembered body of work ?

The answer to this thread lies there

Obviously, it’s only a question among OBH. Britney Spears is the blueprint and inspired everyone.

No she really isn’t when Gaga’s legend status is questioned.

See Gaga has three songs which are more streamed than any Britney song (Poker Face, ARUTW and Shallow). She has more than 10 Grammys while Britney only has one. She has two tours that out-grossed any of Britney’s, more diamond records.

Gaga’s debut was bigger than Britney’s and her come back with ASIB was bigger than Circus.

Recently, Gaga’s Bloody Mary out-sold Britney’s Hold Me Closer: this showcases their current relevance.

Her and Gaga belong in that weird echelon of despite not having lasted that long and as bright, shone so far beyond everyone else for a short period of time that they deserve to be legends. So yeah I think they're legends

That being said, to your average pop music fan like me, yeah absolutely Brit (and Gaga) are legends, but to your average street person, the only people from that time they'll genuinely think of as legends is probably Eminem and Beyonce, which is sad.

See in the process of vouching for Britney you're indirectly undermining Beyonce lmfao, if anyone has more legend credibility from that time its Bey. They're literally peers, just bc DC popped off 2000 doesnt mean she isn't the same peer group as Britney.

Taylor's commonality is just with Max Martin, that's literally it.

The archetype of Britney is a Janet derivative, albeit highly more sexual and pop. Madonna is the blueprint Taylor and Beyonce follow.

OT: Yes, Britney is a legend!

Saying Britney is the blueprint for Beyoncé is maybe a bit much. They surely influenced each other in huge ways and I would consider them both legends and the most note-worthy female artists of the last 25 years. They have always named each other as influences so I think we should just leave it at that!

Good for her. But doesn't Gaga agree that Britney IS a legend?

Clearly you don't go out much, and I'm talking about her classics which she has more than your favs!

Even back then Beyoncé was outsinging and out dancing Spears

what is there to be influenced by? Blonde hair? They never made the same kind of music and Britney could never pull off a live performance of single ladies

Beyoncé has made it clear that hard working and talented women like Tina Turner were her inspiration. Britney’s thing was something else.

I mean these kind of questions will always have debate, if you like Brit music or have seen her rise to fame then you would say she's a legend but if you don't like her then you won't as simple as that! Britney to me is a legend and has inspired many after her.

If you think she ain't one then that's your opinion on the matter, nothing worth arguing for imo.
