Olivia Rodrigo - 'GUTS'

I think the streaming age has pretty much killed pre-album promo, but I do think she hasn't reached the saturation point she did with Sour

I'm not sure what they could've done to change that, but it all feels a bit too lowkey.

Honestly if she released the album one week after Vampire it would be better than this but I’m excited anyway

Why are people acting like this isn’t correct? Lol streams would have definitely been higher than they will be now.

Before SOUR we had SNL, Fallon, BRITS, MTV Push, Vevo Live.

Before GUTS we have one pre recorded live performance.

I know some things are off limits now, but her team fumbled this operation.

OOP. ATRL will be mad

but not me

Spoiler

The album is pretty heavy on ballads, around half of it and the two poppier tracks were already released. I can see the label going with one of the ballads next and following it with "love is embarrassing", the one that seems to be the safest single left.

Glad she's making the music that feels authentic to her heart and mind

and not to conform to cater to sounding commercial success :alexz:

IMO all her team needs to do is have good playlisting and notifications/ads on Spotify and AM. As long as people know the album is out it'll get streams, just from curiosity for the new Olivia project if nothing else.

Spoiler

If half the album is just ballads, then this quote from the Guardian interview doesn’t make sense

“Although there is some of her trademark balladry on Guts, it mostly features tart, agitated rock that draws from British indie (Wet Leg), US alternative (Beck, Smashing Pumpkins) and the feminist punk that Rodrigo’s mum introduced her to as a kid (the Waitresses).”

My hype is kinda gone... I thought the label didn't want her doing the rockier/more upbeat stuff on Sour and that's why we only got brutal, good 4 u and jealousy, jealousy. I thought this would be the opposite and just feature 3 ballads or so. :katie:

Yeah, but the interviewer said that the album mostly features rock.

All of her music sounds pretty much the same to me. Her and Billie need to do something different.

No wonder BlackoutZone said the best song on the album for him is "bad idea right?"

And he's reluctant to share album tea. He hates all Olivia ballads

This all makes sense now. Lmfao

Honestly this.

BUT I will say she has a real talent when it comes to ballads (SOUR ones were very good) and they could be pop-rock leaning power ballads like Kelly & Avril did in the 2000s

Her ballads are by far her best songs, let’s be real now
