Wolf Alice Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Does Rihanna even sing live completely? Most singers improve over the years while Rihanna tries to copy whatever people throw at her like imagine other people's vocals on your studio versions because you can't actually sing that song the way it was created but you also don't have the talent to modify it to your voice

You're not even making sense, what incoherent mess is this?
Aethereal Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Rihanna is at best slightly above Taylor when it comes to singing. But her music is much better by light years.
bijonse Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Huge gulf between rihanna and Taylor’s singing abilities. Like why doesn’t somebody just post their versions of TIWYCF?
Donquizote Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Rihanna sings as bad as Taylor, but still smashes.

I think taylor performed it live too and it was bad. Rihanna is good live, she’s not a top tier vocalist but she’s really good. She can’t sing well is this news to people? I thought we all knew that and knew her strength is melody and playing instruments

Look up any of her Grammys performances or Brits (minus work hihi, but that's still more than Taylor can do) or Xfactor UK Edited May 22, 2023 by rihannafan

That is an absolute lie, her vocals today are miles and miles better than they were at the start of her career. Plus, there's more to being a singer than technique. I will be the first to say her technique is far from the best, and she doesn't have the most impressive range, not by a mile. But she works very well in the range she uses and she, crucially, sings with a lot of emotion and passion. Never do you not believe every word when she sings. That makes singing so much more interesting than just hitting notes and technical proficiency. I'd much rather listen to someone who's giving me some emotional resonance and passion in their voice than someone like Mariah or Christina who can hit the notes but completely lack any sort of connection. Hitting big notes and belting isn't impressive if there's no feeling. Passion and feeling >> technical skill, all day, every single day. 1

Again Rihanna can sing the issue is she has been majorly inconsistent and sloppy as a performer which is true that is all.
EmailMySwift Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Rihanna is right there. Beyonce also lip-synchs extensively. 1 1

Love that song, but even on the studio version you can hear her struggling, especially on the second verse.
Finkypop Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Rihanna is literally a useless artist. Can’t sing, can’t dance, doesn’t write her music, doesn’t produce her music, awful live performer, basically zero artistic input. Yet she’s one of the most successful artists ever. So the answer is yes

This tea Her fans have posted the same comments for years, it’s kinda sad to watch. Taylor (along with most artists) destroys Rihanna in literally EVERY talent-based musical category, they are only comparable vocally. Even then, Taylor is a much better performer overall. There are several reasons why Taylor’s tours/shows are so acclaimed and massive, especially compared to Rih’s. Some of them being that Rihanna is lazy, awful, and offers nothing on stage. Hitting big notes and belting isn't impressive if there's no feeling. Passion and feeling >> technical skill, all day, every single day. Agreed that conviction is the biggest part of a song. But Having a bigger range allows you to have a bigger emotional resonance. it requires more practice, self awareness and control to properly execute it, especially live night after night. You can also have as much passion and feeling and sound absolutely horrible, just listen to stans in concert. Proper vocals/instruments are the make or break tool for delivering and executing a song message. Taylor swift might do well within her limited 4 note lullabies that were recorded once and set to be easy but that’s when the talent of a vocalist like Whitney, Mariah or Celine can come in and really elevate a song and it’s intention. Lol at saying Mariah and Christina lack connection, especially to make Taylor Swift look better. Mariah also writes her own songs, Christina is a **** show and yells left and right so that one can drown but can deliver a much better performance and conviction depending on the subject. Taylor could never convict something as sexual as Dirty or further elevate a classic like Against All Odds.
wanderlust Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) janet.. most of the time she doesn't even sing, just whispers.. and she barely gets any criticism for it (or the constant lip synching), Rihanna, Ashanti, Amerie.. Edited May 22, 2023 by wanderlust 2

Triton Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Anyways, for this thread, the obvious one answer is Rihanna but she’s an obvious exception not the rule. Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Madonna, JLo, Ellie Goulding, Dolly Parton, Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefaní, Kylie Minogue, Adam Levine, Ryan Tedder, Bob Dylan, JT…. Vs Rihanna, Janet, Aaliyah and Diana Ross? Who else? What’s a big name black male vocalist that has average or shitty vocals? 3
