Poptimism is one thing, but in what world does Rihanna, for all her amazing songs and who I listen to a lot more, have ANYTHING over Patty LaBelle? Even with the leaps and bound they've made over the decade-plus they've been making music, they simply just don't have the vocal talent to ever come close to the kind of ability, agility or color of someone like Kelly. Pre-vocal surgery, she definitely had a sublime voice that was up there with the greatest of her generation. You have to judge singers by their peak, not by their worst moments.
