Pluto6 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) How can 5th gen start, when some 3rd gen contracts haven’t even expired yet??? Edited February 28, 2023 by Pluto2022

BellKat Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I thought some people were joking about the 5th Gen start. We are just entering 4th Gen peak, it doesn't mean 5th gen automatically starts... It makes no sense, why would it start so soon
Dialamba Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 A flop group from a flop survival show not gonna start 5th gen

illia Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 mentally for me the 5th gen started with NewJeans or Le Sserafim it really felt like a musical shift
Pluto6 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) 2018-2019: The new globalization of Kpop had just started and 3rd were still stomping on 4th gen. Groups like BTS, BP, TWICE, EXO, RV, Mamamoo were all at their peaks. 2020-2021: Once the 3rd gen started to fall off slowly, the pandemic started which hit the 4th gen the most since some of these rookie groups still haven’t performed in front of a live audience yet, and the whole world in general being limited in terms of promo, performance etc. 2022: 3rd gen starting to fall off and the pandemic ending. For the first time ever, 4th gen are finally taking over and are able to thrive without the pandemic, and being in the shadows of 3rd gen. 2023: Then according to MNET, 5th gen has already started this year Can y’all see why it doesn’t feel right to move onto 5th gen already, not until 2025 at least? Edited February 28, 2023 by Pluto2022
jeanie Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 idk why baemon ages are considered to start the 5th gen era when nct dream who's a 3rd gen group debuted with the same age range of baemon (much lower infact) Mark- 17 Renjun- 16 Jeno- 16 Haechan- 16 Jaemin- 16 Chenle- 14 Jisung- 14 while baemon has 1 21 year old, 2 or more turning 18 and the rest minors. don't forget that aoa whos also considered 3rd gen are much different image wise with twice, omg, gfriend when they were starting.
Asscatchem Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 mnet saying "5th gen" is purely "latest and greatest" marketing but the truth is there's no hard set of rules to define these gens
DelRey Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 We need a new album, last year was amazing for her.

Yeah I mean it's too early for 5th gen. However 3rd gen is lasting unusually long, especially the top tier GGs. BP, RV and TWICE were all million sellers last year and they all have areas where they are still growing, either domestically, internationally or both. The 2nd gen GGs, SNSD, 2NE1, WG etc. all declined around the 7 years point.
DelRey Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Lucas is back? maybe the nct solo is really him
OrgVisual Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 4th gen definitely started with aespa and STAYC, like how SNSD and WG debuted in 2007 then an influx of new ggs debuted in 2009 ITZY and GI are gen 3.5 (like A Pink, EXID, AOA are gen 2.5) but they ain't ready for that convo yet
Bonjourtristesse Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 SZA, Bad Bunny, Blackpink, BTS are absolutely niche when being compared to Whitney, Mariah, Beyonce, Rihanna, Bruno Mars in their prime. The first group’s popularity mostly comes from a dedicated demographic, whether they be tik tok genz or K-pop stans, whereas the “traditional” popstars are/were consumed by multiple generations across the globe.

Matter of fact since aespa debut 2020 was already a record for the lowest debut group in a year, 2021 debuted even less group by a dozen, even 2022 debuted a bit more group than 2021 but still less than 2020.

How Bad bunny a niche when 30% of the US population are Latino . Or are we talking worldwide? Edited February 28, 2023 by Adama
Dialamba Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 You can’t be a niche when you’re mainstream. The only fact is that the era of superstars ended years ago. Itzy and Gidle are 4th gen. No one calls exo and BTS 2.5 Gen.

Bad Bunny is obviously a mainstream household name among Latin countries/communities, just like BTS is obviously mainstream in Asia, but outside of their target audiences, both acts are niche.

Similar to how an influx of groups like APink, EXID, AOA, HELLOVENUS, debuted around 2011-12 As u said, it became dry around 2019-2020, and only truly kick-started in late 2021/2022 with IVE, Kep1er, NMIXX, LSRF, NewJeans, XG etc.
