The BTS army extensions were a blessing and a curse

They had a few more years together and  were able to cement themselves globally but now it’s gonna be forever until they’re out of the army when all their peers are almost finished their service :chick3:

Its a wonder trainees don’t enlist at 18 and be debut ready at 20

What do you guys mean that NJ has no b-side? Hurt got an mv, but it was not promoted as an official single.

if it has an MV and performances then that does make it an official single :michael:

right, i’m curious as to why companies don’t do this since that would be much better than enlisting years later

BTS was supposed to enlist during the covid/ lock down in 2020 right? Which was on paper the perfect time to enlist. But then Kpop exploded even more and Dynamite happened. But their hiatus is going to be shorter than most bg bc it took Exo 4 years to be back at full (and only for this year bf Kai and Sehun enlistments).

I wonder too! But knowing how crazy Kpop fans are with their maknae, and debuting at 20 is considered old in the Kpop world.

they want to exploit their youth as much as possible

most idols are less relevant in their late 20s so it worked out most of the time

It’s not like releasing singles means guaranteed hits. Even blackpink sorta underperformed with multiple singles

Still which means you will have more hits. So far hurt is only NJ’s bside and it didn’t do well. It’s not that hard to get. NJ will always have more hits  as long they keep having multiply singles.
expect for Stay BP’s singles went top 10.

IVE is almost a year older than NewJeans, but has same amount songs and less hits (3 vs 4, and Eleven is not in the same league as the other hits). Besides in the long run, Ditto is gonna outlast AL.

Idk how it gonna outlast if AL as much  digital points as Ditto despite not them breaking the PAK record.

Devil by the window SHOULD be a single and have a video!

Hurt and Stay had their own MVs though, the only reason they underperformed is because they were boring snoozes

although the fact that Hurt (a 7 months snooze-bside/single?) is about to outstream aespa's Girls and ITZY's Sneakers on Spotify is... interesting

But even when OMG wasn’t released, Ditto was not able to get more points than AL peak. AL biggest peak was on their 2nd week too.

Even if they outlast AL,That wasn’t my observation. My point was that Ditto in his peak still hasn’t pull bigger numbers than AL in circle points or with their ULS. Which I found interesting.

Ditto was released just before Christmas and New Year, is it that hard to connect the dots and see that all songs do worse during that time? Sheeps in this thread said that Birthday was struggling because it was released in the Christmas season, yet NewJeans topping the charts just during Christmas, adding Hype Boy to that, then OMG, than bagging 100m digital points week after week is worse than After Like receiving bigger peak in the beginning and then falling behind both Hype Boy and Attention (as of now)? AL did amazing, but it was mainly because they had huge hype after Love Dive smashing. Hype Boy passed AL on Spotify and will get Eleven in the coming days. Attention will pass AL soon and neither had as big peak as AL.

It’s not only about the peaks (and there isn’t that big of a difference between AL and Ditto, while NewJeans have additionally another two big songs going on) but the general picture and longevity.

then aespa have two flop singles and moderately big b-side

Hurt is still charting on Circle (60m total) and it has 52m streams on Spotify.

i don’t recall any of the reveluvs in this thread being surprised when the song itself flopped - it was divisive from the beginning even with the fans :rip:

It’s not only about the peaks

Like you keep talking about longevity ect. That’s great, congrats to NJ. But my point was about PEAK . For now IVE song peaked higher than any NJ songs that’s why people should not discredit them. Ditto also got a huge hype since it’s their first cb after their hits? Yet they couldn’t reach bigger peak when the competition was weaker than august?

Also Songs doesn’t do worst during Christmas. It depends on each years. In December 2021 most SMTM songs were  charting inside the top 10 with 500/600k uls. Christmas songs peak in the top 10 during 1/2 days then fall out quickly after Christmas, it wasn’t a competition this year.

All of NewJeans songs are official singles.

The reason why “Hurt” feels like a b-side is because it didn’t take off like the other singles and got completely overshadowed. I remember people claiming that Hype Boy was a b-side at first as well until it smashed.

What :rip:

ADOR announced that NJ 1st EP had 3 title tracks - Attention, Hype Boy, Cookie and one b-side - Hurt. People were confused because this is rare case in K-pop. NJ fandom was constantly correcting others that all 3 were title tracks.

Hurt is b-side because ADOR said so and Melon does not tag it as "TITLE". K-pop roll outs do not work exactly like western. It has MV and was promoted on music shows to thank fans (original promo was meant for 3 weeks only). In K-pop, we usually call this follow up song.

Stray Kids has MV for almost half of their discography, so all of them are singles? :deadbanana2:

Based on wikipedia, it's not. But idk, was there an announcement anywhere?

Anyway, several articles referred it as a "b-side"

How do u record a song without vocals guide? How did they know what the song sounds like if there's no demo? Not like they composed the song themselves. They are trying so hard to push this "we are so talented and not manufactured" narrative :rip:

But LTS is an English single. By that logic we can classify Moonlight Sunrise as a flop since it doesn't chart in Korea at all?
