'Lift Me Up' debuts #3 WW with +7.6M, +9M combined

This is a great debut! I'm hoping the movie debut gives the song the longevity it deserves. It's a beautiful song.

That being said LMU did amazing but we also can't deny that the song received a lead single treatment with great playlisting, radio push + attaches to one of the most hyped movies of 2022 :camping:

 

Now back to this flop, why the hell Hold My Hand did so poor despite the gigantic box office Top Gun :katie:

Yeah the soundtrack excuse is comical. I cant even think of a soundtrack song that was #1 on TTH (I checked and NTTD was #3, DCMA #2), let alone debut with +27M radio and be promoted as 6 year comeback :deadbanana4:

 

I won’t be pretend like if this wasn’t a proper R9 song it wouldn’t debut with more, but it still should’ve done more considering all the factors :coffee2:

People complain about those numbers but they have no clue how the next day might look. See U in Monaco

Lol instrumental didn't eat up stream

The only reason instrumental got was because it was plastered with song

You get the cover and more exposure. But it was also promoted on Spotifys homepage in general. They threw alot at this song in the first 24 hours on multiple platforms. Even had Fenty Beauty promoting in blog comments.

They always call Taylor inorganic and local. Wonder what will be excuse now.

I hope you guys ignore the few monsters and swifties calling this unimpressive. 7/9M for a soundtrack song with a non commercial sound is out of this world. :clap3:

Yeah the “instrumental cannibalized  streams” is nonsense. “Vocal” would’ve not gained any more streams without. The instrumental prob got 90% of the streams because vocal ends with an instrumental outro so when instrumental version plays next, people still think it’s the same song. By the time they realize and pause, it’s already been counted as a stream :deadbanana4:

It's underwhelming considering it's Rihanna's comeback after 7 years, but then again the song is so slow and ost for a movie, so I guess it's fine. We need to be real tho, if this wasn't her first song in 7 years the numbers would be waaaay way way lower than this.

Swift’s record came just this week after “A-H” was announced as the lead single and “Midnights” was known to the GP and Stan community for MONTHS. 
 

Rihanna announced “LMU” on Wednesday and it was widely known it was going to be a tribute OST track for Chadwick Boseman.

Also, Swift’s last lead single debuted with half the numbers of “A-H” hence why it was a surprise when she did this much this time around. Wouldn’t you agree? 
 

I’m not demeaning Swift’s achievements at all. “Midnights” broke all expectations (AMAZINGLY) because not even her stans were expecting this big of a streaming debut.

And sure, she only announced the song on Wednesday, but her tweets of the snippet and single cover have like 1M and 700k likes respectively, the video has 12M views on Twitter alone, and who knows how much more on Facebook/YouTube/Instagram and Rihanna was the #1 trend on Twitter for days, with multiple viral tweet touting this as her big comeback to music.

Even on Apple Music they call it "the return of Rihanna" (at least on my Browse section)

And like I mentioned, it came with all the pomp and circumstance of a big new single (#1 TTH, 100M+ playlisting, massive radio deal).

 

So this wasn't exactly an obscure release that was quietly put on streaming and not pushed by radio, social media or playlist curators.

It did well, but it could've done way more given all above.

Well, I really get why monsters are showing so much dysphoria but when it comes to Swifties you can't really explain why they do it since their fave is slaying record after record. Seems the Adele slayage (21, 25) gave them a huge trauma and they transfer that frustration against everyone nowadays.

Great numbers. This only confirms that the R9 lead will be huge if it’s a more uptempo song.

I mean we had our fun, we got our licks back all last week. At this point picking fights with smaller fanbases is just beating a dead horse. The few that still do it are pretty lame, most of us don’t care anymore. We’ve got a brand new era to enjoy and there’s no need to feel like we’re competing with other artists. We can be happy for other fanbases getting music and whatever success may come along with that. I’m super happy that Rih is back :clap3:  and I think these numbers are amazing.
